Mike McDaniel is going to have to do on Sunday what he didn’t have to do in two years. Figure out a game plan that doesn’t feature the Miami Dolphins’ star receiver, Tyreek Hill. The wideout injured his ankle during a hip-drop tackle in the Tennessee Titans game. That game saw him playing only 47% of the offensive snaps. A season-low for Tyreek. What’s his status entering Week 15 of the regular season after head coach McDaniel considered him “day-to-day”?
Can the Dolphins manage to win against the fifth-best defense in the league, per FOX Sports, the New York Jets? If the Dolphins lose this game, they will break their record of not losing two back-to-back games this season.

Can we expect Tyreek Hill to play on Sunday?
Tyreek Hill has missed both days of practice, and it remains to be seen whether he will practice on Friday. ESPN reported Mike McDaniel as saying, “I’m optimistic about Tyreek in general. I know if there’s a will, there’s a way.” But he did say that Hill’s injury was really painful, and it would be better to err on the side of caution rather than pushing him to play and aggravating his injury. Only if Tyreek himself tells his coach that he is good to go will he let him play. And that’s why he has to plan for contingencies.

If the “Cheetah” misses this game, it will be his first missed a game since he was traded to the Dolphins in 2022. And he has good reason to not miss the Jets game. He is just 423 receiving yards away from breaking Calvin Johnson’s single-season record of 1,964 yards which he set in 2012. He has four games remaining and will need to record at least 119 yards per game. However, if he misses the Jets game, that requirement will become 141.
And it won’t be a loss just for Tyreek. The Dolphins might lose big time as well.

Cheetah out of action equates trouble for the Dolphins
In the Titans game, Hill made his absence felt. With his favorite target playing, Tua Tagovailoa averaged 9.2 yards per attempt. But without Tyreek, the number fell to 6.2. The team as a whole was also out gained by 37 yards against the Titans due to Hill’s absence. What’s more, Tua recorded a game without a touchdown for the first time this season!

The Jets defense has allowed the second-fewest passing yards this season, and it does not get easier for Miami in the upcoming weeks. With teams such as the Dallas Cowboys, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Buffalo Bills in the weeks ahead (the first two teams having top-five defenses), the Dolphins have their work cut out for them.

The opposing teams know what a threat Hill is, and he often commands the defense’s attention. Now with him possibly out for the Jets game, the already weakened Miami defense will be left vulnerable to more pressure.
