The Saints had little to show for themselves as they came back defeated from Kansas City this week. However, there was one moment that got the Arrowhead silenced when the Saints’ defensive tackle Khalen Saunders intercepted a Patrick Mahomes’ pass that could have ended as a pick-6. Although it didn’t happen that way, Saunders did garner praise from former Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill.
Hill, who had spent six years playing in Kansas City, was visibly ecstatic to see Saunders drive that football to the end zone. Taking to his official X account, Hill posted, “lol good s— bro take that mf to the crib next time or pitch it.” Well, Tyreek wasn’t the only one who had thoughts of taking it home to dunk a pick-6 on Mahomes.

As Saunders later shared, “I was trying to get it home, man. Take it home. Them running-back days flashed in my head. I was like. That’s 101 yards. That’s a little ways to go. But I was trying to give us some real field position.” And the Saints’ defensive tackle did manage to pull his back into the game with that insane effort.
Following that interception and return for 37 yards, the Saints did manage to narrow the gap to just 3 points by 16-13. However, it wasn’t enough, as the Chiefs run away with the game later into the fourth quarter. But for Saunders, it was a huge night as he managed to clock a top speed of 15.79 mph, which remains the third-highest of any player weighing over 320 pounds. You would have to go back to 2018 for the last player, Linval Joseph, who pulled up a top speed of 18.16 mph weighing 329 pounds.
So, how did Saunders manage to pull that interception? Well, it was a one-handed effort that helped the Saints DT to clutch on to the pass that was meant for JuJu Smith-Schuster. Later, he even talked about how he knew that was coming, “I knew it was coming. I know that little tight-end flip. Man, I told you, there’s certain plays they just can’t run while I’m in the game. I was on the scout team for a long time. I have been going against Trav and Pat for a long time, I know all the little tricks and stuff like that.”

But why was Hill excited about Patrick Mahomes’ interception? Is there any bad blood going on between them? Well, Tyreek even squashed any chances of him rejoining the Chiefs after trade rumors surfaced from Kansas City.
Tyreek Hill rejects the idea of joining the Chiefs in a trade deal
Hill had a hugely successful stint playing for the Chiefs over the years. Having won the Super Bowl LIV together, it was all but certain that the Cheetah would stay put in Kansas City. However, in a trade deal Hill decided to move to Miami, which surprised even Mahomes, “It more surprised me whenever it got to the point where we were really considering trading him. They kept me updated the entire time…I played my entire career with Tyreek, so definitely, there was a little bit of shock when he got traded.”

Well, Hill had a great time going to Miami, having finished last season with a career-high 1,799 receiving yards and 13 TDs. But this season, it hasn’t gone too well for the Cheetah as the Dolphins WR recorded just 23 receiving yards in week 4 clash against the Titans. This moment led to speculation of him leaving the Dolphins and joining the Chiefs in a blockbuster trade deal.
However, Hill was quick to put water into those expectations, “I’m just focused on right here and right now. We’ve got a beautiful team here, and I want to be a part of it. We’ve got a great situation here. My family loves it. I enjoy it. The weather’s great. The fans are great. So we’ve got a beautiful situation here, man.” Well, after Hill’s latest tweet against Patrick Mahomes, it doesn’t seem like they will be having a reunion soon.
