While the Panthers aimed for improvement this year, they first had to check what went wrong in 2024. Even the 23-year-old Bryce Young failed to lift them as the team slipped to 8th 8th-worst team in receiving yards per reception (10). The aim was clear. Draft some good offensive playmakers for the quarterback. It started in the first round when they chose Tetairoa McMillan. But he’s not the only receiver. They signed more WRs even after the draft. One veteran, one rookie! Offense is the priority now for GM Dan Morgan.

On Sunday, April 27, the Panthers signed Hunter Renfrow, the 2-time CFP champion with the Clemson Tigers in 2016 and 2018, before the Raiders selected him in the 5th round (149th overall pick). After playing 5 seasons in the league, he was out last year. His arrival will boost Bryce Young’s offense, which is looking for playmakers.

In 73 career games (23 starters), Renfrow has 269 receptions in 2,884 receiving yards and 176 touchdowns. But Bryce Young will be happy with the 2018 Burlsworth Trophy winner if he can repeat his 2021 performance. In his 3rd season in the league, he played 17 games (9 starters) and finished with 103 receptions in 1,038 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns. The franchise will also be hoping for a good show.

The Panthers GM was aiming for good playmakers now, after spending almost $250 million on defense in free agency earlier. When the reporters pressed for drafting a receiver in the first round for the second consecutive year, Morgan replied, “I’m turning into a guy that just wants to bring good football players in here, and it’s just another opportunity to bring a great player in here.” That indeed was a good opportunity.

The Panthers wanted to strengthen their offense. And they seized the opportunities in and after the draft as well.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Bryce Young finally have the weapons he needs to lead the Panthers to victory?

Panthers sign an UDFA for Bryce Young

Dan Morgan made a steal in the UDFA as well. They signed Texas A&M Aggies WR Muhsin Moose Muhammad III, who went undrafted earlier. With his raw power, the 6-foot 195-lb athlete is a fantastic addition to the Panthers’ rookie camp, who are expected to assemble on May 10 to earn their place.

Interestingly, his father, WR Muhsin Muhammad, also played for the Panthers from 1996 to 2004 before playing two seasons in 2008 and 2009. The rookie’s father also stands second in Panthers’ history in receptions (696), receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.

In 43 career games, he had 81 receptions for 1,163 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. So, Bryce Young is in a good place. They also signed the ace receiver Tetairoa McMillan, whose parents dreamed of seeing him play in the league. GM Morgan praised the first-round pick and added, “He’s just a great receiver that is super fluid. His body control is some of the best I’ve seen in a while. He’s exciting.

Overall, they are in a good place now. We expect things to improve. But it wouldn’t be easy.
