Patrick Mahomes is the undisputed kingpin of the NFL, no ifs, ands, or buts. It’s downright daunting to fathom that this might just be the Kansas City Chiefs‘ most underwhelming season to grace the Super Bowl stage under Mahomes’ reign. Talk about dominance–Mahomes has steered his Chiefs to football’s grandest spectacle, a staggering four out of the last five seasons. They’ve notched two victories in three tries, and now they’re geared up for a shot at a third, squaring off against the 49ers in a rematch straight out of the Super Bowl 54 archives.
When the lights shine brightest, Mahomes has largely delivered. Sure, he faced some turbulence against the formidable Buccaneers defense in Super Bowl 55, but he still managed to snag MVP honors in his two triumphs. If he can summon that magic once more, Mahomes stands poised to join the elite ranks occupied solely by gridiron legends like Tom Brady and Joe Montana.

In a candid chat with Nate Burleson, Patrick Mahomes takes a page out of Brady’s boo. Channeling his inner villain, if that’s what it takes to take home the Lombardi Trophy. Burleson drew a comparison. “When we see you, the Chiefs, we see Jeter and the Yankees, Brady and the Patriots. What I mean by that is, they love it when you’re winning, but they hate you when you become dominant. Do you feel that way?”
Mahomes nonchalantly said, “I definitely have gotten that this year. I think that this is the year that actually has kind of came out that way. That’s part of it. You turn into that villain. You turn into that team that everybody doesn’t want to win.”
Speaking of Brady, the legend boasts a record-setting five Super Bowl MVPs to his name. Four came during his illustrious two-decade tenure with the Patriots. With the fifth arriving in his debut season with the Buccaneers, when Tampa toppled Mahomes’ Chiefs in Super Bowl 55.

Brady’s remarkable run saw him only miss out on the MVP honor twice in his seven Super Bowl victories. The first snub occurred in Super Bowl 34 — Brady’s inaugural championship — where Deion Branch claimed the accolade after a standout performance against the Rams.

Chasing history: Patrick Mahomes eyes rare Super Bowl MVP hat-trick
In the annals of NFL history, only a select few have grasped the coveted title of multiple Super Bowl MVPs. Among these gridiron giants stand Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, and Peyton Manning, etching their names in the halls of legend. Yet, should Mahomes secure another MVP nod in the upcoming Super Bowl 58, he’d vault himself into an echelon shared solely by Brady and Montana–an elite trio adorned with three Super Bowl MVP accolades each.
This would mark a monumental milestone for Mahomes, currently navigating his sixth season as an NFL starter. While the debate over the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) rages on, Mahomes can undoubtedly strengthen his case with a stellar showing in Super Bowl 58, further solidifying his place among football immortals.
