Is Tua risking too much for a comeback, or is he the Dolphins' only hope this season?

Dolfans, your savior is here. Tua Tagovailoa is expected to return from concussion injury soon. He has missed 3 games this season. The team is struggling in his absence. However, there is a twist. While there is no update on when he will play again, a former NFL player thinks the league will kick him out.

Shawne Merriman appeared on the OutKick Hot Mic podcast where he talked about how the Dolphins and the NFL will be pulling the plug. His exact words were, “If it does happen again, what I think is going to end up happening is the NFL is going to step in, the Dolphins gonna step in and say, okay, we’re pulling the plug. I don’t care what you want to do anymore.” That could be more dangerous for the QB.

This is his 3rd concussion in the last 3 seasons. In 2022, he suffered 2 concussions. The NFLPA was concerned about the head injuries which forced them to change their rules. First, they fired their independent neurotrauma consultant. Later, they modified the problem from ‘Gross motor instability,’ difficulty getting up or walking to ‘Ataxia‘, impaired balance or coordination caused by damage to the brain or nerves.

According to Shawne Merriman, there is a huge possibility that Tua Tagovailoa will suffer another concussion. He warned the Dolfans and said, “I hate to put this out because you would see things change but how you say you saw the last concussion occur, you have to know that one is going to come in at some point of time.” Well, the concussion has become a repetitive cause of concern for the quarterback.

We can say that Tua might be taking a risk here. However, that also looks like too much looking in the future. The Phins need him to return and turn around games this season.

Mike McDaniel believes Tua Tagovailoa will play again in 2024

The Dolphins QB was placed on IR following the week 2 concussion against the Bills. However, the 4-week period is complete. Though head coach Mike McDaniel didn’t reveal if the quarterback will play in the week 7 game against the Colts, he did mention that the signal caller will play in 2024.

Tua Tagovailoa is trying hard to come back as early as possible. Apart from undergoing the 5-phase concussion protocol, he is meeting with doctors around the nation. But he has to be very careful. In the 2023 off-season, he trained in martial arts, Judo, and Jiu-Jitsu, which helped him to play the last season of 2023 injury-free. Revisiting those lessons might help.

However, Merriman has another way out for the quarterback. He suggested Tua Tagovailoa to cash out the guaranteed money after the season and not put his health at further risk. But that’s a way that many fans wouldn’t like.

Will he take the hard way to come back and battle it out, or will he cash out and sit? It also remains to be seen if the QB will practice this week or not. We’ll see. The talks of return is getting louder.
