Why does Tyreek Hill keep getting into trouble while Calais Campbell faces the consequences for doing the right thing?

Who would want a run-in with the law before they have one of the most important events of their career lined up? Unfortunately, Tyreek Hill had to experience some gruesome things before the DolphinsJaguars regular-season opener. The Miami Police caught Tyreek Hill and didn’t waste time reprimanding the Dolphins receiver.

Hill experienced police brutality and was humiliated publicly for his transgressions. As the Miami speedster experienced a nightmare in the day, his teammate, Calais Campbell, couldn’t just stand by and witness what he thought was an injustice. He saw Hill get arrested in front of him and took a stand for his teammate.

Jonathan Jones, the NFL writer for CBS, took to X and shared the body cam footage of the incident. It shows Campbell just standing there while a police officer tells him to “Get in the car and leave,” repeatedly. When he failed to comply within time, he was handcuffed by another officer. The Dolphins DT didn’t resist arrest and stood there as an officer cuffed him.

“I was driving to the game. The lane I’m in is blocked. I see Tyreek in handcuffs. I’d seen, I feel like excessive force, so I get out of the car to kind of just try to deescalate the situation and I think the officer just – I don’t know why he felt the need to put me in handcuffs, but I mean it is what it is,” Calais said in a post-game interview after beating the Jags 20-17. “The good thing is we were both able to play the ballgame and go out here and find a way to win the ballgame.”

In his own words, the NFL star was told to “stand 25 feet away,” but he was well beyond the advised range. Hill felt bad watching his teammate get detained. However, for a moment, the fastest man in the NFL felt like he wasn’t alone anymore.

“When I saw Jonnu and Calais pull up … I didn’t feel alone anymore,” Hill said. “They ended up handcuffing Calais for just being 6’8” I think. But it was crazy. It was crazy how that same officer who took me down handcuffed Calais for just standing on the side.” After carefully reflecting on the situation, Hill concluded that things could have been even worse if he were not a famous football player.

Tyreek Hill got away just in a nick of time

Per Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus, the receiver was cited for reckless driving and driving without a license. However, the Dolphins receiver cooperated with the police as much as he could. But it didn’t take long for the situation to go from “0 to 60” really quickly.

“If I wasn’t Tyreek Hill, Lord knows, I probably would have been, like, worst-case scenario, I would have been shot or would have been locked up” and “put behind bars, you know, for a simple speeding ticket,” Hill told NBC News. “It just went from 0 to 60, man, from the moment that those guys pulled up behind me, knocked on my window, it went from 0 to 60 immediately.”

A Miami Police Department representative pinned the situation on Hill, saying it was his fault for not complying “immediately.” The Miami PD has been probing the situation and one of the officers has also been taken off the field. At one point, Hill was handcuffed and was lying face down on the pavement he felt really thankful that his pregnant wife Keeta Vaccaro wasn’t there to witness the brutality.

“I’m so relieved she wasn’t [there] because if they would have tried to pull my wife out the car, Lord knows what would [have] happened,” Hill said. “I’m glad she wasn’t in the car.” The situation was too disturbing for anyone to go through. But despite the shakeup, Hill was able to run laps around the Jacksonville team.
