Has Patrick Mahomes already surpassed Troy Aikman, or does he still have more to prove?

Will the ghost of Troy Aikman’s tweet on Patrick Mahomes ever gonna stop haunting fans? Doesn’t seem to be a likely event. Every time the Kansas City Chiefs QB is on a roll, this post resurfaces on social media, creating an electrifying buzz. This time around, Aikman has some serious stuff to admit regarding Mahomes.

The HoF Troy was on a podcast ‘Pardon My Take,’ discussing the Chiefs’ performance this season. Just one reference to Mahomes, and bang! The famous tweet popped up. Once again, he was stuck in an awkward situation. In his defense, the Dallas Cowboys former QB said, “I was curious as to who the writer was. Why would he compare Patrick Mahomes’ stats to me?… Why wouldn’t he compare his stats to Dan Marino or Joe Montana or somebody like that?” He further added that at the end of the day for a QB, the only thing that matters is the number of championships won, not the TDs or passing yards.

Adding more clarity to the tweet, Troy said, “What the numbers mean is irrelevant. My reply was a shot back at the writer and never a shot at Mahomes… so now every time he has had success that tweet comes back up.” He talked about clearing the air with the Chiefs’ coach, Andy Reid, on this, too. He also cleared up the fact that he would never take down his tweet.

Interestingly, Mahomes has completed the challenge unintentionally thrown by Troy. Now, both the QBs have three championships under their belt. The only difference is that Showtime has all the chances to surpass Iceman’s feat.

Has Patrick Mahomes already surpassed Troy Aikman, or does he still have more to prove?

Have an interesting take?

Will Mahomes ‘destroy’ Troy in reality this season?

Troy’s ire was intended for the writer who replied to his tweet back in 2019. But it looks like he may have to eat his words. The Kansas City Chiefs are on top of their game. They are making the faces of every critic turn red with shame.

The star QB of the formidable 5-0 team is on a dream run. Showtime has 6 TDs and over 1200 passing yards this season till Week 5. He threw a tremendous performance in the game against the New Orleans Saints. Mahomes passed 331 yards with a remarkable completion percentage of 71.8.

He first astonished the Chiefs’ fans by winning the Super Bowl LIV in 2020. He ended a 54-year drought for the Chiefs. They defeated the 49ers by a 31-20 score. This time, having won championships in 2023 and 2024, Mahomes can achieve a rare three-peat for his side. If he succeeds, he will certainly surpass Troy.

Be it the Atlanta Falcons, the Los Angeles Chargers, or the Baltimore Ravens, the Chiefs have crushed each one down in an authoritarian style. The only team that came close to beating them was the Cincinnati Bengals, but they missed by a whisker (26-25). They next face the San Francisco 49ers on October 21. Fans believe this drum roll will continue at the Levi’s Stadium as well.
