Trey Hendrickson’s NFL journey just took a wild turn, and Bengals fans are straight-up holding their breath. The dude has been a menace on the field, racking up sacks like it’s his day job (because, well, it kinda is). But now? The Bengals just hit him with a plot twist, giving him the green light to seek a trade. Instead of freaking out, though, Hendrickson is just out here vibing and reflecting on his time in Cincy.
Right now, he’s still chilling in town and caught up with WLWT about the whole situation. Apparently, the Bengals and Hendrickson have been trying to cook up a new deal, but things just aren’t clicking. Still, he’s not letting it kill his vibe. “I wouldn’t call it frustrating,” he said. “It’s something that, you know, gives me an opportunity to prove my worth every season. You know, to be a starter in the National Football League.” In other words, man’s just keeping his head down and doing his thing.

Even with all this trade talk, he made sure to shout out his Bengals fam. “I’ve been able to achieve All-Pro honors, Pro Bowl honors, and it’s been a heck of a ride. And to play with some of the most talented players in the league, like Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase, Tee Higgins, Sam Hubbard, Logan Wilson, B.J. Hill. I could list every player,” he said. “Ted Karras is on that list too. He’s a very special talent. So, you know, I’m just tremendously blessed.” Man’s got loyalty in his DNA.
So why is all this even happening? Well, the Bengals reportedly slid a bag his way—somewhere between $30 to $32 mil per year—but they couldn’t lock down the details on contract length and guaranteed money. And if there’s one thing players don’t mess with, it’s an unstable bag. Since they couldn’t come to terms, Cincy’s like, ‘Alright, let’s see what’s out there.’
Trey Hendrickson has been balling out. Last season? Led the league with 17.5 sacks. First All-Pro nod. Straight-up terrorized O-lines. So yeah, teams that need a pass-rushing demon are paying attention. And with the DE market going crazy, Maxx Crosby just locked in a stupid $35.5 million per year deal, which probs had Hendrickson looking at his contract like, ‘Wait a sec…‘ The Bengals saw where this was heading and figured it might be time to make a move.
And Cincy’s not just handing Trey Hendrickson over for free. Reports say they want a fat first-round or high second-round pick in return. Fair, considering dude’s production. Word on the street? The Bears and Colts are already lurking, especially since some of their coaches have worked with him before.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Trey Hendrickson's loyalty to the Bengals a rare gem in today's NFL trade frenzy?
Have an interesting take?
And he’s not the only one in the middle of some major moves. The Texans just cut Shaq Mason, freeing up $9.4 mil in cap space. Dude was a rock for Houston, starting all 35 games since 2023, but now? He’s hitting free agency. Over in Washington, the Commanders just dumped Jonathan Allen after eight seasons. Strictly a cap move, but still—Allen’s got plenty left in the tank. Meanwhile, the Raiders are locking in their guys. They tendered DE Charles Snowden and are eyeing a reunion with LB Robert Spillane. Looks like they’re gearing up for a serious run next season.
Now, the Bengals have a massive decision to make—hold onto their defensive superstar or flip him for premium draft picks. Either way, Trey Hendrickson’s future is about to get real spicy, and the whole league is tuned in to see where he lands next.
Joe Burrow might just be one more L away from ditching the Bengals
The Bengals are seriously playing with fire when it comes to their franchise QB. With Trey Hendrickson now testing the trade market, NFL fans are starting to wonder—how much longer can Joe Burrow keep carrying this team before he finally says, ‘I’m out‘? Yeah, he’s an Ohio guy and all, but loyalty only goes so far when your squad keeps fumbling the bag.
It will never happen, but if the #Bengals traded Joe Burrow, what would the trade compensation be…? pic.twitter.com/IH7mGEuEj8

Stephen A. Smith kept it real on First Take, saying that if Burrow ever decided to dip, nobody should be shocked. “There is nothing else that we would fault him for about wanting to leave Cincinnati,” he said. “Because that organization ain’t nothing to brag home about.” And the biggest issue? It’s not the coaching or front office—it’s the owner. And you can’t just fire the owner. Yikes.
And let’s be honest, Cincy hasn’t exactly been putting in the work to keep its stars happy. Hendrickson is just the latest dude who might be on his way out. Burrow’s already seen key players leave, and if the team keeps losing talent instead of adding to it, he might start wondering if his Super Bowl window is already closing.
Plus, Ja’Marr Chase literally had a “hold-in” last season, pushing for a new contract. While he eventually suited up, it’s mad awkward when your best weapon has to beg for his bag. If the Bengals keep moving like this, how long before Burrow gets tired of watching his teammates fight for their worth?

Now, some analysts are already out here cooking up insane trade packages for Burrow—just for fun (for now). No one actually thinks the Bengals would move him, but the fact that these convos are even happening. That’s a bad look.
And if Burrow did leave? Estimations for Burrow’s next deal can go up to at least $60 million per year. That’s more than the $55 million per year he’s already making. And with QB contracts going absolutely nuclear, teams would be fighting to throw him a historic bag. Just look at Dak Prescott, who’s currently the highest-paid QB at $60 million per year. Right behind him? Burrow himself, along with Trevor Lawrence and Jordan Love ($55M each). The market is insane, and Burrow’s value would only go up.
So now, the real question is: does Burrow stick around and pray the Bengals figure it out? Or does he start thinking about life outside of Cincy, where a more stable front office could help him actually chase rings?

Right now, he’s keeping quiet, but the fact that these rumors are floating around? Bengals fans better pray their front office isn’t taking his loyalty for granted. Because once these convos start, all it takes is one bad season to turn them into reality.
