Is Trevor Lawrence really overrated, or is he just a victim of unrealistic expectations?

The Jacksonville Jaguars owner, Shahid Khan, might be punching the air right now after giving a generational contract to “The Prince”, Trevor Lawrence. On the other hand, Josh Allen and the Buffalo fans might be laughing at the Jags squad after they embarrassingly made them taste the dirt at the Highmark Stadium as week 3 came to an end. What’s even more embarrassing is the Jags are 0-3 now.

After the 47-10 defeat of the Jacksonville team, some seriously believe that Doug Pederson, the HC, might end up on the chopping block soon. Well, Mark Schlereth has a perfect solution to save everyone’s job. However, it’s less than ideal. So, what did the former Broncos lineman have to say about the Jacksonville team? Let’s find out.

How would you feel if the Jacksonville Jaguars were suddenly deprived of any prime-time games on television? That’s what Schlereth proposed on his podcast with Mike Evans. His reasoning? If people don’t see you muck up, then there’s nothing to talk about. Here’s what Schlereth thinks of Lawrence’s 178-yard, one touchdown, and one interception performance while subtly sharing some bold thoughts for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

“The natural solution is for the NFL not to put him [Lawrence] on TV anymore because if he’s not on TV, it’s Jacksonville, and we’ll never talk about it again. Nobody really cares if they’re bad as long as nobody sees it. So, just don’t put him on TV anymore, and it’ll take care of itself, like in office space—if we just move him out of the building or stop sending checks, he’ll eventually quit showing up, and nobody will see it or talk about it,” Schlereth said on The Stinkin Truth Podcast with Mark Schlereth podcast.

The Jacksonville team started slow, didn’t score a single point in the first quarter, scored a field goal in the second quarter, and then Trevor Lawrence threw a 6-yard pass to Brenton Strange during garbage time in the third quarter. Doesn’t really scream $275 million, does it? Lawrence was an eyesore to watch as he took 4 sacks in the span of this game. The only interception he threw turned out to be Damar Hamlin’s first pick of his career. The game was essentially over as halftime approached and the Bills had a massive 34-3 lead.

Those are some of the reasons why Mark Schlereth believes the owner, Shahid Khan, will end up firing the Jacksonville Jaguars HC, Doug Pederson. “You’re not getting rid of the player since you’ve already invested $275 million or whatever it was. Ultimately, Doug Peterson—who’s a great dude and a good coach—could get fired. Will it be today? Tomorrow?” the former Broncos Lineman added.

So, what does the losing side of the game have to say about the debacle? Safe to say they are not too chuffed about the loss.

Clouds of disappointment and frustration loom over Trevor Lawrence and his team

Pederson would have been eager to avoid the media after such a debacle-laden performance. The head coach was holding himself back and didn’t throw Trevor Lawrence under the bus, instead, he held the whole team responsible for the loss. It all boiled down to a “lack of execution offensively” and “third down conversions” as the head coach put it.

Later, after the game, Pederson addressed the media. “It’s really shocking. Very disappointed. You hate to say it, but the reality is we’re not very good right now,” Pederson said. “I need everybody to coach and play better. Let’s leave it at that.” Things are also the same for Trevor Lawrence as he thinks that “we suck right now.” And just like the head coach, Lawrence took the onus on himself but also pointed out that the team needs to do a better job collectively.

“I’m not playing my best right now and that’s frustrating,” Lawrence said. “It seems like everyone takes their turn in making a bad play at the wrong time, including myself. It seems really difficult to go forward. Can’t find that rhythm right now. We all have our share in it.”

But while Pederson and Trevor Lawrence are taking the majority of the blame, some apprehension is also cast upon the Jaguars defense, who let Josh Allen get 288 yards and throw 4 touchdowns to four different skill position players. Keon Coleman, Dalton Kincaid, Ty Johnson, and Khalil Shakir, all got their fair share of TD passes. All of that after the Buffalo team lost their star WR Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. The Buffalo Bills controlled the majority of the game as they got 19 first downs, 6 third downs, and both fourth downs in the first half alone.

What do you think the solution is to fix the abysmal Jaguars’ performance? Would firing Doug Pederson be of any use? Let us know in the comments.
