Football fans have been cheering on Super Bowl champions for over 50 years now, watching teams hoist that shiny trophy like it’s the ultimate prize. The league’s fanbase has seen different generations of players but they’re yet to see a historic 3-peat. And the Kansas City Chiefs are on a hunt to make it possible this season. Just two more wins, and Patrick Mahomes and the crew will be immortalized in the history books.

Now, with the AFC Championship game looming, the Chiefs dropped a little gem for the Chiefdom on their official Instagram handle. A slow-motion clip of Mahomes diving and launching that beauty of a touchdown pass to Travis Kelce against the Texans. Yeah, that TD pass when Mahomes literally defied gravity and Kelce grabbed it and had you jumping out of your seat. The Chiefs’ caption stated, “With these two, anything is possible 🔥.” Pure goosebumps, right?

Right now, all of Chiefs Kingdom is just buzzing, hoping that with these two, that 3-peat can be possible. But here’s the catch. Kelce sent a message to Mahomes through the post as he commented, “Turn me up 15.” It seems a simple message but there’s a story behind it. Let’s break it down.

See, there have been a few instances in the regular season when Mahomes was overlooking Kelce when the tight end was wide open. For instance, during the week 3 game against the Atlanta Falcons, Mahomes threw the pass to the wide receiver Rashee Rice instead of Kelce, who was available at that time. Since then, the debate whether the QB is ignoring Kelce has been a major part of the Chiefdom. And Kelce’s message to Mahomes is giving the same vibe ahead of the championship round.

But here’s the kicker. The Chiefs entered the season with a lot of option in their offense. Besides Kelce and Rice, the Kansas City team drafted Xavier Worthy and signed Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown for a one-year deal. And let’s be honest, with that O-line, Mahomes indeed had a lot of options in the starting weeks of the season. However, after Brown’s and Rice’s season-ending injury, Mahomes shut down all the accusations of ignoring Kelce.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Mahomes really overlooking Kelce, or is this just strategic play-calling by the Chiefs?

Have an interesting take?

Look, Patrick Mahomes has been doing his magic for the Chiefs year after year, and we all know it. But let’s be real, the offense hasn’t been firing on all cylinders the past couple of seasons. Take this year, for example—yeah, they’ve got other weapons, but it’s still Mahomes and Kelce carrying the load. No wonder those two are basically the Batman and Robin of the Chiefs’ offense. And even though some people keep saying Mahomes is ignoring Kelce a bit, the dude’s still doing his thing, connecting with the veteran tight end like nobody’s business.

If we are really talking about the stats here, then Kelce was targeted 133 times this season. And his track record? That’s a solid one. Kelce caught nearly 100 passes for 823 yards, averaging 8.5 yards per carry. And his recent games are the prime example of the connection between these two.

In their last regular season game against the Steelers before getting benched, Kelce recorded 8 receptions for 84 yards carrying an average of 10.5 and racked up one touchdown. Enter the divisional round after three weeks and his game got even better. The veteran tight end set the NFL record after recording his ninth-career 100-yard game in the postseason.

With 7 receptions and 117 yards, Kelce racked up one touchdown. Yeah, the same TD when Mahomes threw that diving TD pass while avoiding a sack. So yeah, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are having the best gameplay on the field as they’re leading the Chiefs’ offensive line from the front.
