The latest round of unnecessary comments targeted her hair during the Paris Olympics, where Biles led Team USA to yet another gold medal. Instead of celebrating her historic achievement, some people chose to criticize her hairstyle. One person even said she looked like she had “just rolled out of bed.”

But Biles wasn’t having any of it. She took to Instagram to set the record straight, posting a video of herself fanning her face on a sweltering bus ride and explaining the situation. “Don’t come for me about my hair. It was done but bus has NO AC & it’s like 9,000 degrees,” she wrote. Further adding, “oh & a 45 min ride.” And in case anyone missed the point, she followed it up with a sharp reminder, “Gonna hold your hand when I say this… Next time you wanna comment on a Black girl’s hair. JUST DON’T.”

This wasn’t the debut of Biles addressing unnecessary comments about her hair. Previously, she mentioned how social media has empowered Black women like herself to better care for their beauty routines. She admitted that she used to worry about her makeup, but from now on, this doesn’t embarrass her anymore.
