In the world of the NFL, when the time ain’t right, romances get petty just as their faceoffs. Love it or hate it, they are wild moments to watch. So recently Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his ex Kayla Nicole became a buzz in the big league. Their six-year saga of on-again, off-again relationship, was called off by the couple in 2023 since then plenty of Chiefs fans have taken this break-up personally. No doubt things heated up even more when the Eagles handed their rivals a painful 40-22 defeat in Super Bowl LIX. And, if you think the game was intense, the drama afterward was just at the next level.
After the Eagles‘ won, Kayla graced the field with her presence and congratulated the team with gusto. While the Chiefs failed their dream of scoring a three-peat victory. She was seen throwing green confetti into the air and talking to the Eagles’ HC Nick Sirianni while celebrating the Eagles’ victory (or dare we say the Chiefs’ loss). Well, that was the final straw, as the KC fans didn’t let that slide in, for the sake of Travis Kelce.
The real jaw-dropper, however, came when five-times Grammy Nominee Kehlani mocked her with a comment on her post “with them terrible IG filter.” But surprisingly Kayla eased down the matter, by replying “Lo-Fi filter with the Polaroid border.” However, it didn’t seem genuine, it felt like she clapped back in an ambiguous way leaving people guessing.

And well, it wasn’t Kehlani alone. The KC fans are never the ones to leave any chance they have when it comes to targeting Kayla. So, how could they let this celebration go? Some hardcore Kelce fans went to Kayla’s social handle and left some pretty hateful comments. The words were hurtful as fans felt the sting of betrayal from someone they once considered part of their family. One fan wrote, “Some bitter ex still hanging around try to be relevant.” A lot of Kelce fans believe Kayla is only hanging around Travis one way or the other because she sees it as an opportunity to stay relevant and have all the attention. While another comment read, “Girl you need to move on and quit following your ex everywhere.” Some also believe Kayla hasn’t quite moved on from Kelce, while the Chiefs TE has happily moved on with pop sensation Taylor Swift.

But, of course, Kayla also has her fans on her side, justifying her celebrations. One from team Kayla wrote, “She’s a journalistsssss, don’t play with ha✨!” Yes, she is, and some fans do love her for the work she does, and for who she is. “Comeeeee onnnn sports girl 😍 love that you’re doing what you love!!”. Albeit the hate coming from the Cheif Kingdom, her fans wrote,“they could NEVERRRR make me hate you”. Say what you want, but her fans believe she can root for whoever she wants.
Kayla Nicole and Chiefs fans are a war waiting to happen
Well, Kayla for once, didn’t particularly mention if she was rooting for the Eagles or not before the game, but her choice of color for her outfit made it very obvious. Her fans hyped her in the comments saying, “This is iconic in so many ways…. all love for KC… but YOU LOOK SO GOOD IN GREEN”. Alas, the internet is an open place for all, and no one can really control the love or hate the sports journalist is receiving in her comments as we speak.

To be real, this beef didn’t start yesterday. Ever since Kayla’s breakup with Travis Kelce, some Chiefs fans have had hate out for her. Constantly dragging her name into debates about why and how things ended. Some roast her for being petty, and not being able to move on. “Girl bye. You big mad because that man moved on😮”. You can’t deny that fans are brutal. They hardly care if the roasts are fair or not, as her Super Bowl post made their hate even louder.
So, what’s Next for Kayla Nicole? At the end of the day, she doesn’t seem too bothered by the noise. Sure, some Chiefs fans might be holding a grudge or hating her, but she’s still doing her thing. Going on in her career and living her best life. As she also mentioned in her IG post, I can only hope my career allows me to continue to partake in sports history for many more bowls to come.” Kayla is unfazed by the hate thrown at her and only wishes for more opportunities as she moves her way. Ultimately, Kayla’s connection to Kelce and the Chiefs isn’t going away anytime soon, no matter how much she and the fans might want it to.
