The Christmas game of the Chiefs against the Steelers saw records tumbling. Travis Kelce overtook Tony Gonzalez as the leader of the franchise in touchdowns, and we know it was a long time coming. However, his spirits were high for the game, and the Chiefs wanted to win it. They want to enter the playoffs on a winning note. After the game, he also showed his respect for the legend.

The Chiefs great shared an Instagram story with the video of Gonzalez congratulating Kelce for breaking his record. Gonzalez said, “Couldn’t be prouder of you, couldn’t be happier for you.” However, the TE paid his respect by writing, “You’ll always be the greatest to do it. Means the most Tony. #ChiefsForever” It shows volumes about the TE’s character.

During the 13:25 mark in the 4th quarter, Travis Kelce got the ball around the 30-yard mark and ran to his left before the Steelers LB Elandon Roberts hit him from behind inside the 15-yard mark. The crowd was anticipating that a touchdown was incoming and were on their toes. The roar could be heard from all corners. At the 12:45 mark, on the 2nd & 10 drive, Patrick Mahomes got the snap from his O-line.

He ran towards his right with the ball and made a 12-yard pass to the Chiefs TE, who was standing in the end zone, and he grabbed it. It was the 77th touchdown of his career. Everyone was celebrating the historic achievement. It took him a good 12 seasons to become the leader of the touchdowns charts.

However, he got a little too overexcited. It ended up with a penalty from the referees who threw a flag. It was a crazy scene on the field.

When Tony Gonzalez used to score a touchdown, he dunked over the goalpost. But back in the day, it was allowed until 2013, when Jimmy Graham dunked and bent the goalpost, so the league banned it. However, Travis Kelce could not stop himself from imitating his legend’s signature celebration against the Steelers. But the referees penalized him for the action. And guess what? He didn’t care!

Even Tony Gonzalez was happy with the achievement. He had expressed his willingness to watch the Chiefs’ TE dunk. And also added that he would personally pay the fine if the NFL fined him. However, the chances of a fine are less. It was a great tribute to the Chiefs’ legend. He intentionally took the penalty, but no one in the team would mind that.

Overall, the Chiefdom was on Cloud 9. The Chiefs won all 3 games within the span of 11 days. Travis Kelce’s Christmas touchdown added to the festival celebrations. It’s great, and this season is truly historic for them. Everything that is left is a 3-peat!
