The Pittsburgh Steelers which were a feared team at the beginning of the season, recently buckled under the pressure from Cleveland Browns. What’s important is that the Browns were playing without their star QB, Deshaun Watson. And yet they managed to beat them. Entering the game both were 6-3, but the Browns improved their score after the game. And their backup QB had a big role to play in it.

Now that he has an endorsement from one of the greats of football, what more can we expect to see from him in the coming days? Will he manage to lead a Watson-less Browns to football glory?

Travis Kelce vouches for a backup QB

Speaking on the New Heights podcast, Travis Kelce, spoke about how he had watched Dorian Thompson-Robinson, or “DTR” play in college. DTR played for UCLA, and Kelce was fortunate enough to watch them play Cincinnati. That was when he saw the makings of a great player in him. “DTR was a problem,” Kelce praised him.

Will DTR manage to lead the Browns to more victories? Deshaun has left his team in a good position. All that remains to be seen if DTR will be able to fill in his giant shoes. So, far he has shown promise raking in 165 yards in the last game. Although his QBR in this game is half of what it was in the last, was the game itself truly worse?

DTR came through when his team most needed him

Rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson promised that his second career start would be “night and day” different than his first. Thompson-Robinson delivered on that pledge on Sunday. On his last drive, he completed all four passes. This allowed Cleveland to set up their game-winning field goal from 34 yards out with two seconds left, sending the Browns past the Pittsburgh Steelers 13-10.

“Those are pivotal times when you’re waiting for your partner to show up.” Coach Kevin Stefanski of the Browns stated, “He delivered. Came through when it mattered.” With the game-winning goal coming in the last two minutes of regulation, Cleveland won for the fourth time this season. As per the study conducted by ESPN Stats & Information, this season has the highest number of such victories in the franchise’s history.

Regarding the interval between his two starts, Thompson-Robinson remarked, “I’ve been working my tail off. I think that whole drive just shows how close this team is and how much they believe in me.” His admirers are hoping that in the upcoming months, he will also continue to wow.
