The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Cincinnati Bengals highly anticipated matchup can be the 11th matchup to get interrupted by nature. The Jaguars are on the quest for their playoff qualifications. However, the Bengals are almost out of the playoff race. But looking at the weather prediction, the chances are high that this matchup might get called off amid the Special Marine Warning. 

The upcoming matchup is taking place at the Jacksonville Jaguars’ home stadium, EverBank Stadium. We have also compiled data on 10 natural calamities like earthquakes, hurricanes, and snowstorms that either disrupted or led to the rescheduling of NFL games.

The Jaguars vs Bengals matchup might be threatened by nature

The Jaguars vs Bengals game is scheduled at EverBank Stadium (Jacksonville, Florida) on Monday (Dec. 4) at 8:15 p.m. ET at EverBank Stadium (Jacksonville, Florida). Earlier a tornado warning was circulated in the Duval County region. However, The tornado warning has now been lifted, bringing relief to NFL enthusiasts and the residents to resume normalcy. But again, things remain a bit uncertain since the Fernandina Beach Police Department canceled the  Christmas parade.

Simultaneously, the severe thunderstorm warning has also expired. While the immediate threat has passed, a flood advisory is still in place until 7:15 p.m., delivering uncertainty on this matchup. As the warnings recede, attention shifts to the exciting matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Cincinnati Bengals. 

But this won’t be the only matchup that might get affected by Mother Nature’s wrath. Earlier, 10 matchups actually got interrupted or canceled due to natural calamities like earthquakes, snowstorms, and hurricanes.

Matchups that got ruined by nature

Several NFL matchups led to cancellations and rescheduling due to the forces of nature. In 1989, the San Francisco 49ers managed to secure a quiver-free 31-27 victory over the New England Patriots at Stanford University’s Stanford Stadium. The rescheduled venue was a replacement for Candlestick Park which got damaged due to the Loma Prieta earthquake (the 6.9 killer earthquake). In 1992, Hurricane Andrew forced the rescheduling of the opening-day game between the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins. Moreover, in 2003 the Hurricane Fury continued, relocating the Chargers-Dolphins Monday Night Football game to Tempe, Arizona. Also, in 2004, Hurricane Ivan impacted the Titans-Dolphins and Steelers-Dolphins games, resulting in schedule changes.

Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma created havoc in 2005, forcing the New Orleans Saints to play home games elsewhere and advancing the Chiefs-Dolphins matchup. In 2008, Hurricane Ike led to the rescheduling of the Texans-Ravens game, affecting the Texans-Bengals matchup. The collapse of the Vikings’ stadium roof in 2010 due to a severe storm led to the relocation of games against the Giants and Bears. Hurricanes Harvey and Irma disrupted preseason and regular-season games in 2017 for the Cowboys-Texans and Dolphins-Buccaneers, respectively. Hurricane Ida led to the cancellation of the Cardinals-Saints preseason matchup in 2021, with subsequent changes to the Saints’ regular-season opener.

Adding to this list, the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills had to relocate their Week 11 game in 2022 due to an impending snowstorm, shifting the matchup to Detroit’s Ford Field.
