“I’ve probably been guilty of not being patient enough in recent years. That’s one of the reasons I’m committed to Joe and Brian Daboll and giving them a chance to turn this around.” New York Giants owner John Mara gave a sense of relief to coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen after dismissing the firing news of the two. However, he didn’t speak about the quarterback Daniel Jones. Since then, it was almost confirmed that Jones is soon going to be cut from the team. And that happened on Friday, November 22.
Tommy DeVito will now take the reins for the Giants again on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, just like last year. Lest we forget, DeVito’s three-game winning streak, dubbed “DeVito mania” in an otherwise disastrous 2023 season, had proven costly with the team losing a top-3 pick and the chance to add one of the top-3 QBs this year. While contemplating how the 2025 Draft will pan out for the Giants, FOX Sports’ NFL reporter Peter Schrager couldn’t help but dwell on how the Giants dropped the ball last year.
Schrager, who recently joined The Herd with Colin Cowherd show, said, “It’s amazing what a difference can make from a few different plays. Like last year, Tommy DeVito won three games, they were meaningless in the end. He beat the Packers on Monday night and we had him and his agent and his dad doing the whole thing.

“If they don’t win those games, they probably have Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels right now as their quarterback in New York. And if you watched the Hard Knocks show, Joe Schoen was very open about calling those teams—both Washington and New England—to see if they can move up, and neither one of them GMs was willing to make a deal.”
The deal in question is when Schoen wanted to make it happen even in the worst of ways with just a few hours remaining leading up to the 2024 Draft. It just would have taken a “pretty significant” package to even get a reaction out of Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf. Wolf didn’t flinch a bit: “I think we’re pretty happy with sitting here picking… But it’s going to be something crazy like that.” Nothing materialized. But, as far as the next draft is concerned, the reporter is certain about one thing.
“Tommy DeVito is not gonna be the starter next year week one.” Instead, prospects such as Shedeur Sanders, Carson Beck, and Cameron Ward will be under consideration. Now, while the only job is to win the games which, of course, will be in his best interest in terms of job security, Daboll doesn’t have to worry about that after the co-owner’s reassuring words. Losing now means securing the highest possible draft pick! And if we were to go by what Daboll recently said, it looks like the QB-desperate front office and HC are on the same page.
“I think we all need to be committed to doing everything we can do to close out the season the right way,” Giants coach Brian Daboll said recently.
On Friday, Daniel Jones and the Giants ended their 5-year marriage, after the QB’s first-round pick in 2019. However, things didn’t go well after season 1. In the first season, he helped the team to reach the playoffs under coach Brian Daboll. This further gave him the contract extension he wanted (a $160 million extension). But slowly things started falling apart, and now the QB is released after his request. During his tough time, the NFL community came in to pray best for the quarterback. Among those one is Tommy DeVito.

Does Tommy DeVito pray for Daniel Jones?
While speaking to the media, Tommy DeVito said, “We kinda had an idea it’s coming, but thoughts and prayers for him and his family. I’m praying for him. It’s a tough thing to go through, he knows that he has all of our support as a team.” That’s a classy message from DeVito to the released quarterback.
And now, Syracuse Orange alumni might be tasked to play for the remainder of the season. Last year, he went 3-3 as a starter, throwing for 1,101 yards with 8 TDs and 3 INTs.
