Tom Brady's right—Is Daniel Jones really the future of the Giants with his interception rate skyrocketing?

There was a time when the Patriots used to dominate the NFL while rushing teams on their way to win multiple Super Bowls. However, one team was able to survive their onslaught and defeat them in not one but two Super Bowls. The G-Man were the NFL history creators when they caused the greatest upset by conquering the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII with an 18-0 victory.

Tom Brady, who has since hung up his cleats, won seven Super Bowl titles in his illustrious career. But losing to the Giants might have left a bad taste in his Hall of Fame career. Attending the Fanatics Fest, Brady was seen calling out the Giants QB Daniel Jones out of nowhere. Although the fans laughed, Brady might have pointed out one of his recent weaknesses, stating, “Let’s say I threw a really bad interception. I will walk to the sidelines and say you are the worst QB in the world. How can you possibly make that throw? It was terrible?”

Well, the ex-Patriots champion didn’t stop there as he went on to add, “Let’s say Daniel Jones throws in the interception.” Although it could seem like the Giants QB reference could be a personal rivalry, Jones’s problems are there for everyone to see. In 2022, Jones had only 5 interceptions to his name, but that number touching quadrupled his interception rate from 1.1% to 4.6%. Last season, Jones also bagged six starts while finishing with 909 passing yards and a pass completion rate of 67.5 percent. However, these numbers are nowhere near to a player who just signed a four-year extension worth $160 million.

The Giants struggled massively without Jones, who battled a neck injury mid-season. But his comeback to the gridiron was also short-lived, as the QB suffered an ACL tear against the Raiders that ended his season early. With two touchdowns to his name and not ignoring the six interceptions and four fumbles, he had a disastrous campaign, to say the least. Entering his sixth season playing for the Giants, this might be the last year for Danny Dimes to impress the Giants faithful.

Can Daniel Jones turn around his Giants tenure in a make-or-break season?

Have an interesting take?

Appearing on the Simms Complete podcast, hosted by former Giants QB Phil Simms and his son, Matt, Jones expressed his thoughts on coming back this season. The struggling Giants QB stated, “At this point, I’m doing pretty much everything running, cutting, everything I need to do.” Adding to his views, Jones expressed his goals for the upcoming season, stating, “I expect a lot of myself. I expect a lot of the team. And what’s going on outside that is not necessarily something that is going to drive me.”

Given the QBs’ confidence, he needs to stage a strong comeback while tussling with Drew Lock for the starting position. Some analysts have also predicted that Jones could be in contention to win the NFL Comeback Player of the Year this season. Pro Football Focus has cited, “There might not be a more polarizing player in the league than Jones and his four-year, $160 million contract. Suffering neck injury and an ACL tear before week 9 last year didn’t help his case.”

But that’s not all, as Jones’s overall 63.0 grade last season was the lowest in his NFL career. However, his running grade of 82.2 might be something that can give the Giants some positives. Even the arrival of WR Malik Nabers could help Jones re-discover his turnover play, which was recorded at 4.1 percent last year. With no guaranteed money in his contract, the Giants could show him the door if he doesn’t produce the numbers they hope for.

Although he doesn’t need to perform at a Pro-Bowler level every week, supporting his team would be enough. As, the Giants search for yet another playoff run after losing their Divisional round match-up against the Eagles last season, thereby ending their Super Bowl hopes after the historic 2012 season.
