Is Harrison Butker's Trump endorsement a bold move or a hypocritical stance on women's rights?

With the US elections coming closer, the NFL has often made the news for its players’ endorsement of candidates. This time, it’s Kansas City Chiefs star kicker Harrison Butker, whose appearance at a Republican rally in Missouri caught the eye of many. Having declared his support for Republican candidate and former president Donald Trump, Butker expressed his decision to Fox News presenter, Laura Ingraham.

Although the Chiefs kicker wasn’t present with Trump, he was at a rally with US Senator Josh Hawley, who is eyeing Republican reelection in Missouri. Showing up on Thursday night’s edition of The Ingraham Angle hosted by Fox News, Butker called Trump “The most pro-life president.” She further added, “I’m supporting the president that’s going to be the most pro-life president, and I think Donald Trump is the most pro-life president.”

Well, this came as a huge surprise for anyone who saw Butker seemingly disagree with Trump on his stance about women’s reproductive rights. Going back to August, when Trump posted on his Truth Social account that his “Administration will be great for women and their reproductive rights,” Chiefs kicker called out the Trump campaign. Sharing an X post, Butker wrote, “No party or candidate is perfect.”

However, there were no signs of support for the then-Democratic candidate and current president Joe Biden. Instead, the 29-year-old has often criticized the Biden administration for their stance on ab–tion, “Biden has been so vocal in his support for the m–der of innocent babies that I’m sure to many people it appears that you can be both Catholic and pro-choice.” But those comments made by Butker ruffled a few feathers of mothers who weren’t particularly pleased by the Chiefs kicker.

After speaking on his support of Trump, Harrison Butker did address the situation that was seemingly taken in a “poor manner,” as he said, “I was trying to speak life for so many women that have dedicated their life to being the homemaker, being the one that raises the children. It’s a beautiful role, but it’s not a role that should be diminished.” Although Ingraham was pretty calm when hearing Butker’s political views, that might not have resonated well among a certain group of people. She wasn’t the same when it came to the NBA star LeBron James giving his political views.

Remembering Laura Ingraham bashing LeBron James after Harrison Butker’s hypocrisy

You would have to go back to 2018 to remember the last time Laura Ingraham spoke about someone speaking about Donald Trump. While giving a 17-minute interview with ESPN’s broadcaster Cari Champion, James spoke about the president not understanding the challenges faced by people, “The No.1 job in America, the appointed person is someone who doesn’t understand the people.” Although James expressed his grievances as a black athlete in the US, Ingraham wasn’t pleased with his views.

Responding to those comments, she said, “It’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid $100 million a year to bounce a b—. Keep the political comments to yourselves. Shut up and dribble.” Considering her stance on Butker’s support of Trump while calling him the most pro-life president. Her treatment of James wasn’t similar, to say the least. Even though there could be some bias towards Trump, Harrison Butker may have caught the softer side of Ingraham.

As the Chiefs’ kicker continues to lead the kicking duties for Kansas City, his endorsement of Trump may bring a boost to his campaign. However, it’s still too early to call who is going to win the presidency this November. But considering the way his team is performing, the Chiefs could be on their way toward an unprecedented three-peat this season.
