Week 7 ended with a loss to the Buccaneers with 10 points. But it’s not just the loss that is shattering for the team. It’s also that the franchise is handling a tough situation in their locker room. Especially, Buccaneers’ WR Chris Godwin is facing the heat.
During Monday night football, after the Bucs lost receiver Mike Evans to a hamstring injury in the first half, the franchise suffered another blow in the form of Chris Godwin. With just under a minute left in the game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were down by 10 points to the Ravens. Even ESPN commentators Troy Aikman and Joe Buck questioned whether the team should run out the clock to avoid risking their players’ health. Unfortunately, the worst happened.
During the final minute of the game, Chris Godwin injured his leg. Hence, it was obvious for the media to question the coach Todd Bowles about his decision. To which, the HC responded, via reporter River Wells, “The Bucs were trying to win the ballgame down 10 points. Said that without Mike Evans, they didn’t have many receivers left.”

Hence, now as the player is injured, Bowles asserted, “We’ve got to step up and move on, but our hearts are heavy.” The Buccaneers lost 31-41 to the Ravens. This heaviness came from the play when Godwin caught a pass over the middle, but his leg got trapped awkwardly under Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith. Consequently, he stayed there down, clearly injured.
And on the other hand, the Buccaneers lost 31-41 to the Ravens, besides losing their two important receivers.
What’s the update on Chris Godwin?
Although it’s not clearly revealed what kind of injury Chris Godwin is currently suffering, the fact that it is possibly a serious one is causing concerns among the Buccaneers fans and the locker room. The latest report till now, is shared by NFL insider Dov Kleiman, where he stated on X, “Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin’s early indication of his injury is a dislocated ankle.” However, according to the coach, Todd Bowles, this injury “does not look good.”

In addition to that, the Buccaneers have already ruled Mike Evans out with a hamstring injury after his second-quarter blow. He was already dealing with a nagging hamstring issue, and this came up. After his departure, Trey Palmer took the field as an every-down outside receiver. And now that Chris Godwin is also out. The team might look for Sterling Shepard or Jalen McMillan as their next receiver, according to their depth chart.
Besides all these, it’s clear that the road will not be easy for the Buccaneers.
