Was Tennessee’s last season a major flop? Brownie points to anyone who can answer this question right. Riding low on a 3-14 journey through the 2024 season and having secured absolutely zero winning seasons since 2021, the Titans don’t need new faces in the team. They need a miracle happening to save themselves from becoming the next Cowboys. If anything, the one factor that’s common between the Cowboys and the Titans isn’t just them losing season after season, it’s also poor decision-making skills when it comes to adding new players to the team. Now, the big question is, can they rebuild and bounce back? As a Titans star is out here challenging the management to make moves that can take them a bit closer to their winning dreams.
In a recent conversation on the podcast Cleats and Convos with Deebo Samuel, Titans superstar Jeffery Simmons revealed his suggestion for the Tennesse’s roster move with their first pick. The Titans star mentioned, “I’m gonna start on the defense side, I think we need another edge guard.” He continued saying, “That guy from Penn State, Abdul Carter.” To this, show host Samuel, failing to mask his excitement replied with, “He’s a Dawg.”

“I’m gonna start on the defensive side of the ball. We need another edge rusher. That guy from Penn State Abdul Carter, he’s a DAWG.”

And why not? Nittany Lions’ edge rusher Carter is a true menace on the field. I mean, it’s clearly evident from his impressive stats and field performance. These factors speak well for the rising star’s potential and how he can change the narrative if the Titans sign him. In the 2024 season alone, Carter appeared in 16 games, amassing 68 tackles (43 solo), 23.5 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks. Over his three-year collegiate career, he accumulated 172 total tackles, 41 tackles for loss, and 23 sacks.
The Titans‘ struggle to keep talent in the house is nothing new. Over the past few seasons, they’ve watched key players walk right into the arms of rival teams. A.J. Brown? Gone to the Eagles. Jonnu Smith? Snatched up by the Patriots and then traded to the Falcons. Corey Davis? Signed with the Jets. And the list goes on. This nonstop talent drain has left a hollow within the team that a lot of other players aren’t honestly able to fill. What’s up with the team’s roster management? The player calling for major upgrades on both the O-line and D-line through smart free-agency moves and a strong draft. It is a call to arms before more talent walks away and Simmons here is requesting the front office to make some moves before more damage is done.
Although, some fans on X didn’t quite agree with Big Jeff’s request and mockingly tweeted, “I’m not listening to a guy (Big Jeff) who said we should have kept Mike Mularkey”. As the Titans still struggle through failed roster moves, there are teams like the KC Chiefs who are already making bold moves and prepping their roster for the 2025 season.

Chiefs snatch away another key player from right under the Tennessee wing
The Chiefs have mastered the art of poaching talent from their rivals to keep the Super Bowl machine running smoothly. Anthony Firkser is just one of those names. Back in November 2024, the Chiefs added Anthony Firkser to their practice squad for some extra depth at tight end. However, Firkser was activated to the team roster during the 2024 season where he played a total of 3 games and recorded just one tackle. But now, it’s more of a homecoming situation for the TE as he spent a good chunk of his rookie season with the Chiefs back in 2017.
No doubt Tennessee is in a critical position after the Chiefs signed the Titans’ former tight end Anthony Firkser for a future contract, as per NFL insider Aaron Wilson. But once, he was Tennessee’s offensive asset, and his departure questions the Titans’ ability to fight in a fierce AFC competition with elite teams. Firkser has made significant contributions to the Titans, during his tenure from 2018 to 2021, he recorded 106 receptions for 1,170 yards and five touchdowns across 58 games. His crucial role in the Titans’ 2019 AFC Championship run, even catching a 22-yard touchdown pass in that game.

Now we wait to see if the Titans’ front office listens to their star DE and shakes things up, or if they’ll gamble with more setbacks in an increasingly cutthroat rivalry. If the Titans’ front office fails to tackle these issues head-on, they are bound to lose another season and question all the what-ifs right from the beginning.
