The offseason just got way more interesting. As per recent reports, Brandon Aiyuk has officially requested a trade from San Francisco 49ers and might already be entertaining talks for a new home.

The 2020 draft pick heads into the final year of his rookie contract and was at loggerheads about a new signing with his home team. With the recent revelations, the trade speculations surrounding him throughout the offseason might soon come to rest. Interestingly, the wide receiver has been a hot favorite among teams even before the news broke out!

John Frascella reported Aiyuk’s trade request on X and revealed his potential landing spots according to trade talks. The top team in pursuit of the star WR has been the Steelers. Already having one of the most dynamic offseasons, Pittsburgh aims to upgrade their roster further a notch with the 26-year-old’s addition after getting a veteran quarterback like Russell Wilson in their roster .

Next in line with the trade interest is the Baltimore Ravens. It has already been speculated that WR and OT are the two positions the franchise would be targeting this offseason. Aiyuk would pair with QB Lamar Jackson, undoubtedly making a great duo to spearhead their offense in their Super Bowl pursuit in the upcoming season.

Apart from these two franchises openly in talks with the 2023 second-team All-Pro, Frascella hints at a third “mystery team” in the mix. Quoted to be “coming on strong for Aiyuk,” the sources have remained tight-lipped about this curious addition.

The third “mystery team”

While the Steelers and Ravens have made their intentions clear of acquiring Aiyuk for their crew, curiosity arises about the third team, which has been making similar active efforts. The top guess comes out to be the Washington Commanders. Under a new regime of HC Dan Quinn, the team has remained silent about their favorites in the offseason but has been working vigorously behind the scenes. Moreover, having 2nd pick in this year’s rookie lineup, the Commanders are sure to pick up a potential weapon like Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, or J.J. McCarthy. So, getting a Super Bowl-experienced wide receiver seems to be an enticing option.

Then there are the Buffalo Bills, who recently lost their star WR in a trade. Stefon Diggs’ departure leaves a gaping hole in their offense, and the 49ers’ player might just be the perfect fit. Again, there’s the additional factor of constructing an elite QB-WR duo with two-time Pro Bowl Josh Allen.

While Brandon Aiyuk had made his dissatisfaction with San Francisco clear when he unfollowed the franchise’s official Instagram account this week, the trade reports still come as a surprise. With a prospective third team added to the drama, it is going to be interesting to see this offseason drama unfold.
