A lot of fans found it hard to believe that Clark Hunt was the worst owner in the league. The reason was that the Chiefs had won two Super Bowls under him. And they had been a high-performing team for at least half a decade. They felt something didn’t add up. But clearly, the team felt differently. They voted their own poorly on several metrics.

Now, on the latest episode of Nightcap, Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson went head-to-head. While one was for the owner providing as many perks as possible to players, the other thought it excessive.

The debate started when Sharpe brought up the NFLPA’s survey results. Clark Hunt, owner of the top team in 2023, was at the very bottom. He attacked Hunt and said that the families of players should be provided with extra amenities when they come to watch games. Ocho jumped in, “They have a family section for the families when it’s time for the games. Now you mean we have to accommodate the family when the game is over as well?” Sharpe flared up. “Where do they go?”

Ocho rebutted with his own experience. He said that when he was still a player; the family used to wait outside after the game was over. “This ain’t 2000!” Sharpe said. Ocho remarked sarcastically that now owners are expected to “accommodate” players’ families as well. “At least give them a room,” was Sharpe’s response. When Ocho said that they already are given a separate room that only they had access to, Sharpe’s face dried up.

He hit back with, “Well, your players gave you an F,” and then changed the topic. But what metrics did Hunt rank poorly on?

Despite HC Andy Reid earning top marks with an A+, Hunt’s report card tells a different story. The Chiefs’ overall ranking took a nosedive, dropping to 31st place from 29th in the previous year. This significant decline underscores the widespread dissatisfaction within the team. The metrics he scored poorly on were family treatment, training facilities, nutrition, and locker room conditions. His players especially highlighted his neglect in upgrading the locker room after the team’s 2022 Super Bowl win.

If you were to ask Ocho, players were focussing on all the wrong stuff. They shouldn’t be complaining about perks and just stay focused on playing football. If there are things that legitimately come in the way of them winning games, then it’s fair. Otherwise, not really.
