After spending 8 seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Derrick Henry decided to move along to join the Baltimore Ravens alongside Lamar Jackson. After he hit the free agency, the Ravens didn’t hesitate to give the RB a 2-year $16 million deal. Henry mentioned that he wanted to significantly contribute to the Baltimore team to possibly gun for a Lombardi.
The Titans’ former running back appeared on The Pivot Podcast to talk about his NFL career so far. In an excerpt of the conversation, the reasons behind him joining the Baltimore Ravens came to light. Despite a lot of teams seeking an RB, he mentioned having an understanding with the Ravens because they showed him “love” from the start.
Channing Crowder asked Henry the reasons behind siding with the Ravens as many teams would have been willing to hire the RB to “run the ball.” The AP Offensive Player of the Year had sentimental reasons behind his choice to side with the purple and black colors.

He had a run-in with the Ravens VP and GM Eric DeCosta, who tried to convince Henry to join the Ravens. The reality of the free agency set in for Henry when he saw Kevin Byard getting traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. He was hearing rumors about himself, something he couldn’t make sense of until he spoke to his agent.
“I’m talking to my agent. They sound interested like they really want me to come there come in trying to make an impact. So I’m like okay cool like it feel like it was genuine, they really want me so but when it fell through, you know um and I end up finishing the season and then free agency started. I was like they going to be number one tomorrow on my radar because they’ve been showing love since that trade deadline.”
But that’s not all, since the trade is now complete, Henry stated his intentions behind joining the Ravens and what he brings to the table.
The Ravens’ new RB has his eyes set on the prize!
In a recent story from Ravens Wire, the RB mentioned how his playing alongside Lamar Jackson would strengthen the Ravens offense and that he wants to be an “added piece” to this new offensive scheme.
“[Lamar Jackson]’s so dynamic in how he plays, and his playmaking ability, especially me seeing it going against these guys for a little while now. So, [I’m] excited to play with him. He had a great year this year, [and he] did a lot of great things,” said Henry.
