Brandon Aiyuk becomes the butt of the joke! It is no secret that the wide receiver’s contract extension talks with the San Francisco 49ers have suffered a serious blow. Aiyuk played a huge role in leading the franchise to Super Bowl LVIII. Despite the fruitless partnership, neither party has agreed to a new contract before the 2024 regular season. While Aiyuk is certainly in a spot of bother, Jayden Daniels can’t seem to stop laughing.
On June 17, the WR posted a clip of their interaction on TikTok. In the video, Aiyuk discussed the reasons behind the unsuccessful contract negotiations and revealed to Daniels, “They said they don’t want me back.” The Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels burst out with laughter after Aiyuk’s revelation, which also got a chuckle out of the 49rs star.

The WR’s $14,124,000 contract will end after the 2024 season. As per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, there is a vast gap between the 49ers and the 26-year-old’s contract valuation. Aiyuk is apparently demanding a similar salary to Amon-ra St. Brown which is in the ballpark of $30 million. However, the Niners are not willing to pay more than $26 million.

Brandon Aiyuk may test out free agency
Brandon Aiyuk finds himself in an interesting position where the San Francisco 49ers may not be able to afford him. Players like Deebo Samuel ($71.5 million), Nick Bosa ($170 million), and Christian McCaffrey ($38 million) are already on huge contracts at the franchise. Hence, a big-money long-term contract for Aiyuk can cripple the 49ers financially. Either the franchise may choose to trade him in the preseason or Aiyuk can head out for free agency.
Earlier in 2024, BA’s coach T.J. Houshmandzadeh revealed he was “pessimistic” about the 49ers No. 11 signing a contract with the franchise. Amid all the certainty, former NFL star Robert Griffin III opined that Arizona State alumnus should go and play with Jayden Daniels at the Commanders. The potential move “would hit like RAY LEWIS IN HIS PRIME,” claimed RGIII.

Aiyuk had a great season in 2023 after registering 1,342 yards and 7 touchdowns. So the San Francisco faithful will absolutely love to see the California native don the jersey for them long-term. However, the franchise’s financial situation may end up breaking the fans’ hearts.
