As of now, there are no direct commercial flights from Kansas City to Germany, but that may soon change because of the enthusiasm of football fans in the area. This Sunday, German-American football enthusiasts will savor their second taste of NFL regular-season action as the Kansas City Chiefs square off against the Miami Dolphins. NFL made its German debut, last year in Munich, when they organized a matchup between Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks.

Moreover, the next week’s game between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts will also take place in Frankfurt. Recently NFL commissioner Roger Goodell took questions from the German audience. He assured them that the NFL is already planning to host more games in Germany. Amid this, he mentioned some destinations for it to happen.

NFL predicts Germany to be their road to international domination

On the opening night of this season, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed the league’s ambition to expand its global presence, stating that they were actively exploring opportunities “around the world.With the addition of two games in Germany and three matchups in London in 2023, the NFL is making good on its commitment, totaling five games outside the U.S.

This international expansion underscores the league’s commitment to reaching fans worldwide and further solidifying American football’s global appeal. Goodell revealed, “D?sseldorf, Berlin ? there?s been a lot of interest there ? so I think they?re all possibilities, yes.” He also addressed the audience and stated, “You?ve been an incredible part of our growth, you?ve been part of our history of growing our game globally. We?re going to continue to play here in some fashion.

Not only this, the NFL is also planning to expand their game locations outside the US. For that reason, they have extended the limit to 17 games to make the process smoother.

The matchup, this Saturday, shines a spotlight on star quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Tua Tagovailoa. Both are considered strong contenders for the MVP title halfway through the season. Both games planned in Frankfurt were sold out the moment they were announced. This surprised NFL and they want to touch other markets to test the potential of more business moving forward.

So, after the 17th game was added, the NFL reviewed their options to conduct games in other countries as well, like Brazil and Spain. And one of them could likely happen in the next season itself. Goodell said, “I expect we’ll be playing a regular-season game in another market next year in addition to the markets we’re in.
