Patrick Mahomes’ last season with the Red Raiders was somewhat phenomenal. He led the nation in passing yards, that’s for sure. Perhaps the Bills missing out on him was the biggest mistake they made to date. But that’s all in the past now and nothing can be done about it. Mahomes’ back-to-back Super Bowl wins caused a domino effect in the league and that also trickled down to college football.
The Red Raiders will be a “Patrick Mahomes team” from now on. Why? He facilitated a deal that would separate Red Raiders from the Big 12 pack and lead them beyond uncharted places. So, what’s the big deal here? Apparently, Mahomes has another deal with Adidas, but here’s where things get exciting for the Matador Club.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback partnered with Adidas to launch a 10-year apparel sponsorship for the Raiders. And that’s the reason they call him a legend there. The players will get new uniforms, helmets and what have you. But if there was someone on Cloud 9 because of the deal, it was the Red Raiders’ HC Joey McGuire.

“It is one thing to be an Adidas team, it is another to be a Patrick Mahomes team with Adidas,” Red Raiders’ head coach Joey McGuire said on media day. “He’s a proud alum, man. He was such a big part of the deal.” But why is it labeled Patrick Mahomes’ team? Well, that’s because Mahomes already falls under Adidas’ massive roster of athletes, so putting together this deal was like making a PB and J for Mahomes.
But he did this mostly because he wanted the place that made him a superstar to get more recognition in college football. “I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for Texas Tech and I’m proud to have helped bring Red Raiders Nation into the three-stripe fam,” the QB said and added, “Today is just the beginning of an incredible partnership with Adidas, so stay tuned for more to come this fall that we’re excited to be working on together.”

So, what exactly is the Texas Tech team getting out of this deal?
A whole new look for the Red Raiders
At the beginning of this month, the Raiders revealed 3 uniforms that the team will sport at the start of the new season. But there’s a surprise because there’s one more that hasn’t made it to the light of the day. It will be a surprise when we’re into a few more games when the season starts in September. The Raiders haven’t won a conference championship game since 1976 and this season; they hope to change the tradition.

But that’s not the only cosmetic change you will see in Raiders gear this year. When Mahomes started his initial deal with Adidas, they made a new logo for all the collaborations coming with the QB. It’s a gladiator logo with Patrick Mahomes’ initials on it. Now, the same logo will feature on the helmet that the Red Raiders will show off in the season.
With this, the Big 12 commissioner Brett Yomark is hoping that the conference will reel in more corporate sponsorships in the form of new uniforms, new gadgets, and some other things that will be revealed in the future. For now, it’s a new dawn for the Red Raiders and hopefully, they do well in the coming season.
