Patrick Mahomes is heading back to Texas Tech! The Kansas City Chiefs’ QB is on quite a roll this offseason with partnerships! In June, the NFL star found a way to bypass the strict prohibition on promoting alcoholic drinks with his ‘Time Capsule’ advertisement campaign with Coors Light. Now, the three-time Super Bowl winner is back with another promotional deal, but this time, with his dear college!

Texas Tech had a longstanding business relationship with Under Armour. In 2006, Under Armour became the equipment provider for Texas Tech for nearly 14 years. After the first deal ran out in 2020, the parties renewed the contract for another four years through June 30, 2024, for a reported $12.9 million! But now that the deal is up, Tech has decided to partner up with Adidas for the next 10 years!

In a promotional video put out by Texas Tech, a helicopter unveiled the new Adidas logo on the Texas Tech field and interestingly, there was also a logo of Patrick Mahomes’ brand ‘2 PM’ present as well! The 28-year-old played for the team from 2014 to 2016. The NFL QB has done extensive promotion for his alma mater since leaving and it is nice to see them paying him back with Mahomes’ gladiator logo on the field.

Patrick Mahomes can’t contain his excitement after the deal with Texas Tech. Taking to his social media platforms, the three-time Super Bowl winner wrote, “LETS GOOO!!!” and tagged Adidas and the Red Raiders. Texas Tech’s athletic director Kirby Hocutt gave credit to Patrick Mahomes for seeing the deal through. Apparently, the two caught up during the ’15 and the Mahomies’ Foundation’s charity gala event in 2022. Mahomes, who has 11,252 passing yards for the Red Raiders, singled out his former university to begin his journey in the apparel business. Though the deal did not happen till July 2024, Mahomes foreshadowed it in 2019 when he wore a Texas Tech shirt with ‘Adidas’ taped over the Under Armour logo.

While the financials of the deal aren’t public yet, a Dallas Morning News report claimed the Adidas deal will provide a 107% increase in the team’s annual value. With the Adidas and ‘2 PM’ logo on their gear, Texas Tech is gearing up for a new dawn and they can thank their former QB Patrick Mahomes for it.
