The Texans’ offense was just not playoff-good compared to their solid defense this year. A team that was 22nd in total yards and 19th in scoring, this tells you the picture of the Texans’ offense in the 2024 season. CJ Stroud’s inconsistent performances only added to the team’s woes, creating a recipe for disaster. While many also blamed the Texans’ offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Stroud publicly defended him. “I’m definitely on Bobby’s side,” said the Texans QB CJ Stroud during his last press conference of the 2024 season. It shifted the odds strongly on the OC Bobby Slowik’s side. But the head coach DeMeco Ryans had a different view: he didn’t want the offensive coordinator, and they fired him. As H-Town fans were still reeling from these moves, more troubling news surfaced, leaving them on edge.

The NFL fined their RB Joe Mixon $25,000 for a comment he didn’t even make. The league wrongly quoted former Bengals receiver, TJ Houshmandzadeh’s comment to the running back. A huge backlash erupted over the decision. But the week ended on an even worse note, with the latest fines for the plays in the divisional round. They exited the playoffs with a 14-23 loss to the Chiefs. The league fined CJ Stroud’s teammate, CB Kris Boyd, $8,056 for Unsportsmanlike Conduct (removal of the helmet).

The cornerback was charged up from the kickoff. Texans kicker Kaʻimi Fairbairn made a 60-yard kick to start the game. But when the WR Nikko Remigio rushed back with the ball, Boyd tackled him on the HST 32 yards. In his excited state, he ran towards the special teams coordinator, Frank Ross, who was telling him to keep his composure. The referees threw the flag, enforcing a 13-yard loss which held the Chiefs move to HST 13 yards.

As CJ Stroud’s teammate approached Ross, he even shoved him, pushing him. But after the game, Kris Boyd cleared his stance on the incident. He shared an Instagram story, clarifying that he was excited and didn’t know about the penalty. He also apologized for his mistake. But the damage was already done. The Chiefs opened their score with an FG on the very first drive. And later won the game.

After the playoff exit, the Texans are eyeing a rebuild in the offseason. But it’s not like everything ended on a grim note for them. There is a silver lining.

CJ Stroud’s teammate earns Pro Bowl nomination

The Texans brimmed with pride when their 4 players, RB Joe Mixon, WR Nico Collins, T Laremy Tunsil, and CB Derek Stingley Jr., were selected for the AFC Pro Bowl. However, after their campaign ended, their DR Danielle Hunter, also joined them in the Pro Bowl, 5th of him and the Texans as well.
