No regrets since March 18, 2022! When the Houston Texans traded Deshaun Watson to the Cleveland Browns on this date, many questioned the Browns’ decision to secure the QB. However, this decision seems much worse now as up until this point, the QB hasn’t been able to find his groove in the league, especially after being suspended for 11 games in 2021. And probably that’s why Texans’ owner, Cal McNair’s wife clowned the Browns for acquiring Watson.
In a recent episode of The Ultimate Fan Experience podcast on August 30, 2024, McNair’s wife, Hannah McNair, thanked the Browns for taking away Deshaun Watson. She said, “Thank a Brown. Have you thanked a Brown lately? I thank them for all of our players.” Ouch! That’s a serious mock on the team.
Besides Watson not getting his form back, two other pointers probably prompted Mrs. McNair to make this joke. And that is the historical haul, as among others, compensation from the Watson trade landed Houston two great players – defensive end Will Anderson and wide receiver Tank Dell. Anderson, on one hand, proved his worth by being NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year last season, helping the team to reach the playoffs. While on the other hand, Dell is arguably the team’s best wideout right now.

Furthermore, let’s not forget that after Deshaun Watson’s exit from Houston, McNair’s franchise has become the defending AFC South champions. Hence, all of these positive sides after Watson make Hannah McNair’s comment on the Browns more comprehensible.
Meanwhile, with the Browns, Watson has only played 12 games in two seasons, after his suspension due to claims of s—– misconduct. Last year, he was limited to 1,115 yards and 7 touchdowns only. Hence, the Texans and McNair are happy to find CJ Stroud as his permanent replacement who showed potential in 2023, by leading the team into the playoffs in his rookie year.
However, it’s important to note that this isn’t the first time when Hannah McNair has shown her dislike for Watson.

In December 2022, the year in which Deshaun Watson was traded to the Cleveland Browns, the two teams met each other for a matchup. That was the season when Watson returned to the field as the Browns quarterback for the first time after his suspension since January 2021. However, not only did he return, he led his team to victory against his former franchise. But what caught attention in that pregame warmup was the Texans’ owner, Cal McNair’s wife, ignoring Watson.

Before the Browns won against the Texans 27-14, the quarterback, Watson, approached Houston owner, Cal McNair for a hug and handshake. During their meeting, McNair’s wife, Hannah McNair, turned her back on the QB. Seeing this, Watson turned and made his way back towards his teammates for warmups. This created a buzz among NFL fans, who were pretty sure that Hannah had no regret in trading Watson to another team.
Nevertheless, in 2024, Watson will again be starting as the quarterback, hoping that he makes a remarkable comeback this time with the Browns.
