Good news for the Texans! C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans have entered the NFL offseason by hitting a reset button to bolster their roster. And guess what? They are doing so successfully. They traded underperforming blockers such as Laremy Tunsil and Kenyon Green to the Commanders and Eagles, respectively. Now, they have decided to continue with a star defensive end, giving him a bigger deal in the process.
According to Tom Pelissero on X, “The #Texans and Danielle Hunter have agreed to a one-year, $35.6 million contract extension that makes him the NFL’s second-highest paid defensive end, per sources. Hunter will make $32M this season — a $12.5M raise — and $55.1M ($54.1M fully guaranteed) over the next two seasons. Deal negotiated by @ZekeSandhu of @KlutchSports.” That’s indeed big and interesting news. Congratulations to this C.J. Stroud’s teammate.
To the people who are unaware, last year, DeMeco Ryans‘s Texans signed Hunter to a two-year contract. With one year over, C.J. Stroud’s team has extended another year for him (until 2026). And why shouldn’t they? After all, the athlete performed extremely well, becoming the franchise’s top pass rusher in 2024.

This four-time All-Pro indeed made a slow start, but when he picked up, he racked up some great records. This is evident when you look at the numbers—Hunter managed to total 12 sacks and 17 tackles for loss, along with 45 tackles and 23 QB hits. Not only that, he proved to be a great help for C.J. Stroud and co. in securing another playoff victory. So, it’s obvious that the franchise was happy with him and hence rewarded the man with handsome money.
Originally, Hunter was set to earn $19.5 million in 2025. But under this new contract, he’ll now make a total of $55.1 million over the next two seasons. So, how much will be the average salary for C.J. Stroud and DeMeco Ryans’s star? Well, it would be $27.55 million per year, significantly boosting his earnings. So, in short—this deal restructures his pay and secures him a bigger payday. Well done!
Besides him, C.J. Stroud and DeMeco Ryans’s franchise is deciding on another interesting move this offseason.

C.J. Stroud could get help on the offense
After paying Danielle Hunter what he deserves, DeMeco Ryans’s Houston is moving on to make another move this offseason. Yes! The franchise is deciding upon handing C.J. Stroud an additional advantage this time by strengthening up the offense. How? Well, it’s because the Texans are reportedly signing free-agent offensive tackle Cam Robinson to a one-year deal. As per reports, the contract can reach up to $14.5M for the upcoming season.
Cam Robinson’s journey took a big turn last season. After spending over seven years with the Jaguars, he was traded to the Vikings in Week 9. They needed him badly. Why? Well, their left tackle Christian Darrisaw was hurt, and Minnesota had no clear backup. So, just five days after arriving, Robinson was on the field. He stepped into a critical role and held it down for 11 games, including the playoffs.

No doubt, Robinson filled a gap, but the difference between him and Darrisaw was obvious. His blocking wasn’t at the same level. He ranked 25th in pass protection, 45th in run blocking, and struggled under pressure. Even Next Gen Stats painted a rough picture—he allowed the third-highest pressure rate among left tackles (12.1%) and gave up nine sacks, the fourth-most in that group.
He stepped in when the Vikings needed him. But now, C.J. Stroud and Houston will hope he can step it up to help them take the next step in the playoffs.
