“They put this much trust in me. I can’t come in here and let them down.” Deebo Samuel promised he would repay Jayden Daniels’s Washington Commanders for bringing him to their team. But what about the other receiver who waited for his contract for a long time? Yes, we are talking about Terry McLaurin – the man who had the best season of his career in 2024 with the rookie QB.
We all know that Terry McLaurin’s future is up in the air. He’s entering the final year of his contract, set to make $15.5 million this season. His average salary? Just $23.2 million per year-ranking 16th among receivers. Even his new teammate Deebo Samuel is making more at $23.85 million. So, now, with his contract winding down, the question is simple. Will he get the deal he deserves?
According to General Manager Adam Peters – Yes, he will! The Commanders’ GM joined Kay Adams on her show Up & Adams to talk about the draft days and Terry McLaurin’s contract situation. During this discussion, Peters said, “We love Terry and you know we’ve had some really good conversations with his Representatives. We’re going to keep those in-house, okay!… We really want to make Terry a Commander for a long time.”

Jayden Daniels’s teammate McLaurin has been nothing but reliable. A third-round pick in 2019, he’s put up five straight 1,000-yard seasons. The only time he fell short was his rookie year, and even then, he had 919 yards. Last season, he took it to another level – 82 catches, 1,096 yards, and a career-high 13 touchdowns.
So, of course, the Commanders believe in him, despite trading Deebo Samuel to their roster.
Praising Terry McLaurin more, in another interview, Peters added, “He’s a great Commander. He got better and better as the season went on — not only as a player but as a leader. It was really impressive to see him grow so much. You think of Terry as this pristine, polished player, but then he got even better, so it’s really cool. Everybody can get better, even the great ones. So, we’ve had talks with Terry’s representation, and I think — just like any talks — we’ll have those will stay in the house. But it’s been really positive.”
Indeed, Terry McLaurin is good, and with his quarterback, Jayden Daniels, the duo is explosive for sure! If you don’t believe in us, just check out what offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury said about them in January.
“They have built through the year, there’s no doubt… Those two guys are just going to get better and better as they go. They’re two very conscientious players that are team-first guys and work really hard at it.” Even the facts tell the same story.
Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin made history by becoming the franchise’s second QB-receiver duo to be selected for the Pro Bowl. The first duo was Mark Rypien and Gary Clark, who were selected in 1991. Hence, Daniels believes in his teammate, as once he said, “You just put the ball in the vicinity for Terry to go make a play, and nine times out of 10 he makes them.”
So, of course, how could the Commanders let this solid duo break? But coach Dan Quinn isn’t just depending on McLaurin or Deebo Samuel to help the QB.
Is Dan Quinn making an important decision for Jayden Daniels?
The Commanders just made a statement! They traded for Laremy Tunsil, and guess what? It wasn’t just a move – it was a message. The message is – Dan Quinn and his team are serious about protecting quarterback Jayden Daniels.
No doubt, Tunsil is a superstar, a five-time Pro Bowler, and one of the best pass protectors in the league. But his arrival changes things for others. The biggest shift is definitely for Brandon Coleman. How?

Well, Coleman had a solid rookie year, splitting time at left tackle. He had his struggles, but he gained experience while doing that. Now, with Tunsil in place, he’s moving to the right tackle. Yes!

Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed this plan to save Jayden Daniels in the games. With Sam Cosmi out for most of 2025, Coleman has a chance to lock down the spot. If he struggles, Washington has options. But this is his moment.
On the other hand, Tunsil’s presence bolsters the lineup, but we can’t deny the fact that everyone has to step up. Because the message is clear – Washington isn’t waiting around. They’re building something big.
Now, it’s up to Jayden Daniels’s teammate, Coleman, to prove he’s part of it.
