The universe gives and takes in funny ways. What will become a bane for Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals might just give a newfound edge to Will Levis and the Tennessee Titans. After the Titans fired Mike Vrabel, they were looking for a new head coach. It looks like they’ve found him. Per the latest developments, it seems like the Titans have decided to go with Brian Callahan as their new HC.
The NFL just posted a tweet on X that substantiates the news. All that remains to be seen is whether the Titans make the best of this cascade. They finished the season with an abysmal 6-11 record and Titans’ controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk decided to let go of Mike Vrabel. Hopefully, the Bengals OC is the right man for the job.

The news first broke out through Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. The NFL’s tweet is captioned, “Titans to hire Bengals OC Brian Callahan as new head coach. (via@ TomPelissero)”. The post has broken the NFL community and has more than 800k views on it. However, many think that going from Vrabel to Callahan is a downgrade and the Titans shouldn’t have made the move.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday that The Titans are finalizing a deal to hire him. The 39-year-old had an interview with the Titans on January 12 over a Zoom call. According to sources, he underwent a second interview on Monday, and the Titans decided to hire Callahan on the spot, though they didn’t make the information concrete on the same day. The in-person interview came late because the NFL didn’t allow teams to conduct personal interviews before January 22.
Callahan, who joined the Bengals as their OC back in 2019, comes with 14 years of NFL coaching experience. Since then, he has helped the team achieve a lot. For starters, he is the man behind Joe Burrow’s transition and development. Not only that, but he also took the team to two AFC Championship games and an appearance in Super Bowl LVI.
Reportedly, the Bengals are looking to fill the void left by Callahan and feel that their quarterback coach could be a viable option for this kind of opportunity.
The Bengals are eyeing Dan Pitcher for the vacant OC position
Well, the Bengals already have a replacement OC in the pipeline. Dan Pitcher might be the one who might end up replacing Brian Callahan. It is not written in stone as of yet, but per some sources, Pitcher is the next viable option instead of Callahan. By the looks of it, the Bengals are losing out on a lot because, with Callahan, the Bengals were ranked 8 in total offense, and 7 in terms of scoring offense.
For now, we can just hope that he can help the veteran Ryan Tannehill and the rookie Will Levis with upskilling as quarterbacks. On a positive note, Pitcher has been with the Bengals since 2016 and there is a reason why the team likes him as a quarterback coach.

But here’s the catch amid the Bengals OC buzz. Per Ian Rapoport, the Patriots are set to interview Dan Pitcher on Tuesday for their vacant OC position. Not only this, but Rapoport also reported that he is scheduled to meet with the Raiders and Saints this week.
Well, the guy is truly in demand, but his hiring with the Titans, of course, comes with a lot of expectations. The details of his contract are not out yet. What we can strongly agree on right now is that Callahan’s specialty is building QBs, and he has his next pet project ready in front of him. The difference is that now he has more control over how things work.
