Poor. If there is one word that can describe the Raiders‘ 2024 NFL season, it’s this. Tom Brady’s team had a season to forget as they ended last on the AFC West table and lugged a 4-13 record. This eventually led them to fire HC Antonio Pierce and start searching for a new leader. Ben Johnson (Detroit Lions offensive coordinator), Aaron Glenn (Detroit Lions defensive coordinator), and Steve Spagnuolo (Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator) are some names they are considering for the role. However, there is another important name in this mix.
It looks like the Raiders are interested in Russell Wilson’s former head coach. Yes, we are talking about Pete Carroll. Many football fans perceived cracks in their relationship after Wilson was shockingly traded to the Denver Broncos in 2022. That being said, is Carroll a suitable name for the Raiders?
Consider this: Pete Carroll is looking to return to the NFL after taking a year off after his Seahawks exit. He would bring in credibility and his strong resume to Las Vegas. He went 137-89-1 in 14 seasons with the Seahawks and also won their lone Super Bowl in the 2013 season. This was followed by a Super Bowl loss to Brady and Bill Belichick the next season.

But we wonder if the team really wants the 73-year-old to lead their wagon. After all, his struggles on the offensive side of the ball are well-documented. Regardless, he is one of the best, and other teams too have an eye on him. Carroll has already interviewed for the HC role with the Chicago Bears. So we weren’t too shocked when NFL Network tweeted:
“The Raiders will be interviewing former Seahawks HC Pete Carroll for their HC opening today, per @RapSheet.”
If the former Seahawks HC joins the Raiders, he will work with Tom Brady, who back in 2015 squashed his dreams of a Super Bowl victory. 10 years ago, on February 1, 2015, Tom Brady and the Patriots faced the defending champions Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX. Going into the game, both teams were evenly matched and their performance on the field showed the same.
The Seahawks gained the upper hand and were leading 24-14 midway through the fourth quarter. But then the inevitable happened as Brady showcased his greatness leading two epic drives of 68 and 64 yards, both of which ended in a touchdown to take the score 28-24 in favor of the Patriots.

This game was also remembered for the final pass play call by Carroll, which was touted by many as ‘the worst play call in NFL history’. With so much history between Brady and Carroll, it would be interesting to see how the two work together, if the former Hawks HC decides to join the Raiders.
Who else are Tom Brady and the Raiders looking at?
Whether it be Carroll or someone else, it is sure that the Raiders will look to fill the HC position as soon as possible. According to reports, the Raiders have reportedly requested interviews with seven candidates, including former Jets HC Robert Saleh.
Saleh is an experienced coach and is currently the offensive consultant for the Packers. Interestingly, he has worked under Carroll for three seasons and was the defensive quality control coach during their Super Bowl-winning season. Saleh is reportedly interested in getting back to the HC role and if that is true, the Raiders will surely look to get him in.

Along with that, the Raiders have also approached both the offensive and defensive coordinators of the Lions, Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn. While Johnson has been on the radar of almost every NFL team, Glenn is someone not many teams have gone after and this gives the Raiders a great opportunity to sign him.
Steve Spagnuolo, Todd Monken, and Vance Joseph are among the other coordinators that the Raiders are looking toward. The question is, who will suit the Raiders best?

With the Patriots signing Mike Vrabel, Ben Johnson is now the talk of the town as the Lions OC has impressed one and all with his offensive strategies. It looks like the Raiders and Tom Brady will have to make a decision quickly.
