The Pittsburgh Steelers won the last game against the Green Bay Packers, but it came with a cost. The game added to the already extensive Steelers injury roster. It all began when Cole Holcomb was carted off the field and quickly ruled out of the season after the clash against the Titans which happened about 10 days ago. However, Holcomb was replaced by Kwon Alexander (LB), who suffered the same fate owing to a “serious” injury. The fans might not see him anytime soon after the Packers game.

The Steelers took a huge hit to their linebacker list. However, oddly enough, Mike Tomlin maintained his composure and appeared in a presser to give more updates about what was going on with the team. From the looks of it, Tomlin is set to compromise on the linebacker luxury that the Steelers had.

Tomlin didn’t waste much time getting into the presser and started sharing the injury report. Alexander suffered a lower-body injury and he is being evaluated as of now. “It appears Kwon Alexander has a serious lower-body injury. He’s being evaluated, but not promising there,” head coach Mike Tomlin revealed after Pittsburgh’s 23-19 win. A report from ESPN said that Alexander has suffered a torn Achilles. This was a non-contact injury that took over him in the first quarter. The Steelers had a lot of hope riding on Kwon Alexander after Cole Holcomb was ruled out of the season.

The thing is, till now, the Steelers had a trifecta of linebackers, which Tomlin referred to as a ‘luxury’. With two of the holy trinities out for the foreseeable time, the Steelers found themselves in a conundrum and chose Mark Robinson and Elandon Roberts. Apparently, Roberts was wearing a green dot, which meant that his job was to convey the plays coming from the sideline. Seeing his absence, Elandon Roberts took over the role and Mike Tomlin was happy about it, to say the least.

Kwon Alexander was having a decent season before the tragedy struck him and forced him out for the season. Tomlin continues to remain confident and is focused on following a traditional approach this season.

The Steelers are relying on capable guys who can act in a traditional fashion

The veteran LB started his first season with the Steelers this year and was sitting on a total of 41 tackles this season, out of which, he had 32 solo tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and one interception in the season. Unfortunately for Kwon Alexander, the unsuspecting injury took over him and forced him out. An Achilles injury is not something to be taken lightly, we know that well after seeing the Aaron Rodgers injury.

With no Linebacker luxury left to the Steelers, Mike Tomlin is hell-bent on making do with what he has, and the Steelers will see the season ahead with the same enthusiasm. Tomlin will focus more on the “traditional approach” after his LBs were taken away from him.

Regarding the Steelers LB situation, Tomlin mentioned, “We had a luxury when we had all three, but we’ve got two really capable guys now who are going to act in more of a traditional fashion. We don’t feel like anything’s lost in that regard.” Here, Tomlin’s second-year LB Mark Robinson may have a crucial opportunity but again, Holcomb’s season-ending knee injury, and then Alexander’s “serious” torn Achilles, certainly changes a lot for this team. Hopefully, the Steelers will make it out of the slump.
