When the tragedy unfolded, Lisa was joined by her son Marc and two nieces to celebrate their team’s success. All four family members suffered from gunshot wounds at the rally. Unfortunately, Lisa had fatal wounds. The 43-year-old was a revered disc jockey for the Hispanic community in Kansas City. And her passing left a giant hole in the community.
“Her spirit’s still here with me”, said her daughter from the room where Lisa practiced and mixed her tracks. Many of Lisa’s future bookings were canceled. In a bid to not only help the Hispanic community but also to get closer to her mother’s art, Adriana chose to step up.
“I kind of just wanted to honor her and keep her legacy going”, said the 19-year-old. She unpacked her mother’s DJing equipment and has started practicing. Adriana will soon be filling in for a booking that her mother had confirmed before her untimely passing.
And just like the grieving daughter, Kansas City has shown its strength and grit in the face of violence.
