Is Tom Brady's warning to Mahomes and Burrow a sign he's not done with the NFL yet?

Tom Brady isn’t done messing with the NFL. The seven-time Super Bowl champ just dropped a bomb on social media, warning the league’s young guns—Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and other QBs—that he could still sling it.

In a YouTube vlog, the NFL GOAT threw down the gauntlet to today’s top QBs. Brady bragged, “I just want to make sure all those young bucks in the NFL know that if I still wanted to come out of retirement, they still got something to deal with.” Looks like he’s not ready to fade quietly into the sunset!

Since hanging up his cleats in Feb. 2023 after a 23-season career and seven Super Bowls, Brady’s dropping hints about an epic comeback. On Shadow Lion’s DeepCuts podcast, the former Bucs’ QB played coy about a possible return. “I’m not opposed to it, but I don’t know if they’re gonna let me,” he asserted with a grin.

Comparing his potential comeback to Michael Jordan, who announced his NBA retirement three times between 1993 and 2003, Brady said,“If I become an owner of an NFL team, but I don’t know if — I don’t know, I’m always gonna be in good shape, (I’ll) always be able to throw the ball. So to come in for a little bit, like M.J. coming back? I don’t know if they’d let me, but I wouldn’t be opposed to it.”

The seven-time Super Bowl champ dropped two wild hints: Sliding into a minority ownership role with the Raiders—or comeback with the Patriots (his team for 20 seasons) or 49ers. Guess the young guns better stay sharp!

Florio’s take: Why Brady might be reconsidering his retirement

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio dug into Tom Brady’s comeback comments and dropped some juicy insight. In an episode on NFL on NBC, Florio hinted that Brady’s broadcasting gig might be tougher than he expected.

“He’s working so hard, and it’s not as easy as it looks. He’s realizing that dealing with criticism from fans and media, and navigating social media, is tough,” said Florio, pointing to the criticism and social media heat that could hit him harder than expected.

His theory? Brady could be struggling with the transition from field to booth. Unlike the controlled game-day environment, broadcasting throws Brady into the spotlight with constant scrutiny. “He’s looking for a way out, that’s my theory,” Florio speculated, suggesting that the five-time Super Bowl MVP might have been toying with this idea for a minute.

Brady used to dominate on-field, but now he’s tackling a new challenge—staying legendary while juggling the media grind. Let’s see how his new broadcasting gig turns out.
