“As my teammate’s girlfriend says, ‘familiarity breeds contempt,’” Harrison Butker said, referring to Taylor Swift’s song ‘Bejeweled’ and addressing her as Travis Kelce’s girlfriend. The kicker who was invited for a commencement speech at the Benedictine College in Kansas on May 11 didn’t stop there. Singling out female students, he addressed the “diabolical lies” society has told them in a monologue many described as sexist and misogynistic.
“How many of you are sitting here now, about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career?” he stated, before adding, “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”
Butker further pointed out how his wife, Isabelle, “would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all: Homemaker.” His comments, that also involved comments on the LGBTQ+ community, abortion, surrogacy among other mentions, drew sharp criticism, which even got the Chief’s commissioner involved in a condemning speech. On May 14, Justice Horn wrote on X: “Harrison Butker doesn’t represent Kansas City nor has he ever. Kansas City has always been a place that welcomes, affirms and embraces our LGBTQ+ community members.”

However, Taylor Swift never responded to Butker, who also happens to be NFL’s highest paid kicker a four-year, $26.5 million contract extension in August. Or maybe she’s not even bothered about it anymore, which was evident in the artist’s response to the kicker taking the Kansas City Chiefs to a win against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Amid the hooting and hollering in Arrowhead’s private suite was a palpable excitement from Taylor Swift and the other Chiefs’ WAGs.
It’s also to be noted that this is Butker’s 13 successful score against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Super Bowl champions were trailing 25-23 to the Cincinnati Bengals, after Evan McPherson converted a 53-yard field goal attempt to give his team the lead with just over nine minutes remaining. However, as the Chiefs made a pass interference call on opponent safety Daijahn Anthony on fourth down in the final minute, it was Butker’s time to shine. The kicker drilled it right in the middle with just 3 seconds remaining on the clock and helping his team keep a spotless record.

The win seems to have wiped away any qualms Taylor Swift might have had against Butker. Or maybe, she didn’t have any in the first place. But while Taylor Swift managed to steal the highlights today, the same cannot be said about Patrick Mahomes. He was a bit short of delivering.

Apart from the game-winning field goal, Butker scored another early 19-yard field goal in the first quarter with just 2:11 remaining. However, the score was 23-22 at the start of the last quarter, and the Chiefs were in the lead. But McPherson’s field goal gave the Bengals a much-needed hope of at least neutralizing their bad start to the season. The Chiefs were scoreless for nearly 9 and a half minutes before Butker took the onus on himself and got the much-needed win. All this came after Patrick Mahomes faltered a bunch of times in today’s game…
The QB threw for 151 yards, completing only 18 of his 25 passes today. If it weren’t for the two touchdowns he threw, the situation would have been dire. One of those interceptions came from Cam Taylor-Britt and it was absolutely jaw-dropping. The one-handed interception reminds us of a pass that only Odell Beckham Jr. and Justin Jefferson would make. This pick came in the third quarter.

However, the Chiefs quarterback showcased a subpar performance from the get-go. The first interception came early in the game when Mahomes threw a pass in the middle and it was picked off by Akeem Davis-Gaither. When the game approached the last quarter, the Chiefs were still leading with one point, but it was a competitive clash.
While the Chiefs managed to get the W somehow, the game was laden with some controversy. Fans are upset about some fouls not being called on the Chiefs players for holding Bengals’ linemen, setting the KC team for the win. If that wasn’t enough, a pass interference call also became a source of controversy by the end of the game. What do you think about today’s game? Let us know below.
