After nine long years, it’s the end of Joey Bosa‘s Chargers era. After gracing the gridiron with Ohio State, Bosa kicked off his NFL journey by donning the Chargers jersey in 2016. And now, the LB has to pack his bags and leave LA. The Chargers reported on Wednesday that they were releasing Bosa. The 5x Pro Bowler now has to find a new team for himself. So, where could Joey land next?

Enter Tampa Bay’s former defensive star, Gerald McCoy. The NFL Network analyst doesn’t shy away from playing scout for his former team, and he’s giving a heads-up to the Bucs now that the Chargers LB is without a team. On Wednesday, Ian Rapoport posted on X about the Chargers releasing Bosa: “The #Chargers have informed star pass-rusher Joey Bosa that he’s being released. One of the best Chargers ever.

McCoy quickly chimed in, tagging Bucs GM Jason Licht. “Hey Bucs fans, y’all gonna tell me I’m wrong about this one too? OH WELL!! 🤷🏾‍♂️ Hey @jasonrlicht LET’S GET TO WORK!!” commented Gerald on Ian’s post.

Gerald played for the Bucs for nine seasons, earning six Pro Bowl selections along the way. The former Bucs star should seriously consider a career in scouting. Just this week, he vouched for Darius Slay Jr. The Philly CB was released as the Eagles looked to free up cap space. And as soon as the news broke, Gerald quickly reached out to Licht on X.

Reposting the update about Slay’s release, he wrote, “HI!! @jasonrlicht Not sure how your Monday is going, but just wanted to leave this here… Have a great week, sir!!

The Bucs can seriously consider Darius, who is just coming off a Super Bowl win. As per multiple reports, the team looks to replace CB Jamel Dean. That would leave a spot for Slay. But as far as Joey is concerned, well, the Tampa Bay fandom is not exactly on board with the idea of having him on the squad.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Gerald McCoy right about Bosa, or are Bucs fans justified in their skepticism?

Bucs Fans Not Sold on Joey Bosa Addition

The Chargers releasing Joey did not just happen out of the blue. The team was planning to release him last season as well. But the LB agreed to take a pay cut to stay on the roster. Bosa still had one year left on his two-year, $40.36 million deal with the Chargers. But this season, the team has finally parted ways with their star. The decision came a week before Bosa was set to pocket a $12.36 million roster bonus.

While Gerald advocates for Bosa and urges the Bucs to sign him, the Buccaneers’ fans do not share the same opinion. “Great player, but the best ability is availability, and he’s missed 23 games over the past three seasons,” replied a user to Gerald.

Yes, the Chargers wanted to free up some cap space, but Joey’s consistent struggle with injuries was also one reason the team decided to release him. “He been washed. Check the tape, bud. Can’t live off past success or last name,” explained another user.

The Ohio State alum was a sight to watch on the gridiron during his initial years, even earning Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in his first season. “He’s a great player but can’t stay healthy. Unfortunately, guys don’t tend to get more healthy as they get older,” wrote another user.

Bosa’s health has been a major issue for the Chargers as well, especially over the past three years, as he continuously dealt with injuries. Now that Joey is in free agency, it will create an interest in fans to see where he ends up.

Some analysts also project the Niners to be a perfect team for him, as he would join his brother Nick. But for now, it’s all up in the air.
