Since 1995, the San Francisco 49ers haven’t won a Super Bowl. Hopefully, Brock Purdy and his men would be able to break the curse after 29 years. While, arguably, the whole world is banking on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, there are a healthy amount of football connoisseurs who are willing to take a chance on the Niners this time around, given their latest run on the gridiron.

Super Bowl LVIII preparations are in full swing, and the NFL realm saw both teams’ representatives on the opening night. Kelce and Kittle fanboying over each other shows the sportsmanship between the two. Even Mahomes didn’t stay back and shared his perspective concerning Brock Purdy. The Chiefs’ QB couldn’t help but come forth with some heavy compliments supporting the excellence of Purdy.

Patrick Mahomes was in full energy and seemed enthusiastic when he was asked about Brock Purdy. The NFL just uploaded a snippet from the SB opening night on X. The video was captioned, “He does both. The flashy and he wins football games—Mahomes on Purdy.” Just like Kelce praised the 49ers TE Kittle, Mahomes was witnessed showering the 49ers QB in compliments.

In the presser, the 28-year-old said,“He’s done a great job in his last two years that he’s played. I’m having to play him yet but he does a great job extending plays, he does a great job making the throws, he’s a winner.” However, Patrick Mahomes did not end his statement there. He continued to link the 24-year-old’s talent since his college days and said, “I mean I saw that I didn’t play them and when he was in Iowa State but when he was in Iowa State playing against my Red Raiders he was winning.”

To further strengthen his statement and compliment for the young QB, Mahomes added,And he’s always been a winner and that’s what takes in this league it’s not always the flashy plays. Can you go out there and win and he does both the flashy and he wins football games.”

There is a lot of pressure on both teams. While the Kansas City Chiefs will be vying for their third title under Patrick Mahomes and playing in their second consecutive Super Bowl, the Niners will be looking for a way to vanish the jinx they have been under since 1995. But, what happened that year that has led to Niners not claiming a SB title in 29 years.

The year that put the 49ers SB dreams to a halt

It was the Super Bowl XXIX when the San Francisco 49ers went against the San Diego Chargers (now the LA Chargers). The game ended with a 49-26 win for the 49ers. However, since then, they haven’t been able to claim another Super Bowl title win like that. The game commenced in the Joe Robbie Stadium, Miami, Florida on January 29, 1995. Steve Young, the Niners QB was named the MVP of the game. He had an astounding 6 touchdown game and made 24 of his 36 passes over 325 yards.

It was a game in which Steve Young replaced Joe Montana and had a lot of pressure on him. He was uptight about the game but later realized that all he had to do was have fun. Since then, this “fun” mentality has trickled down to the future generations of the Niners.

“I am having so much fun at it. Before, I was pressing so hard, trying to outdistance criticism and skepticism and everything else. It just got sickening. I just had to do things differently.” Said Young about the situation at hand.

Who do you think will ultimately claim the title, will it be the prowess of Brocky Purdy or the excellence of Patrick Mahomes on the field that will shine? Let us know in the comments!
