The NFL recently announced that members of the Lahainaluna High School football team have been chosen as honorary coin toss captains for Super Bowl LVIII. The delegation will consist of players Morgan Montgomery, Teva Loft, Kaulana Tihada, and Kuola Watson, alongside co-head coach Dean Rickard, associate head coach Garret Tihada, and former head coach Bobby Watson who will oversee this prestigious function before the game between San Fransisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs.
However, there is a poignant reason behind their selection. It traces back to one of the most catastrophic wildfires in over a century in the US.

The school is also proudly associated with the LunaStrong fundraising initiative. The fundraiser strives to amass financial resources for the student-athletes and coaching staff of Lahainaluna High School affected by the wildfire. The motivation behind the high school’s excursion to Las Vegas primarily revolves around heightening awareness about this cause. And where could this message resonate more powerfully than at America’s premier sports event – The Super Bowl?
Interestingly, the students were informed of their incredible opportunity to attend the Super Bowl by none other than Marcus Mariota, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and a native of Hawaii. Also, Mariota will lend his voice to a special introductory video before the football teams enter the field on Sunday. This praiseworthy cause undoubtedly escalates anticipation towards the forthcoming Super Sunday.
