Wake up! Patrick Mahomes’ new ring just dropped! That’s right, Patrick Mahomes will be getting a new ring today after winning Super Bowl LVIII. The Kansas City Chiefs just dropped a trailer for what that ring will look like. Suffice it to say that the ring is loaded with precious gems, but not as precious as Mahomes.
The Chiefs uploaded a video of the ring that Mahomes is supposed to get in the ceremony. An extremely detailed piece of art, the ring would remind Mahomes of his 3 Super Bowl wins as the Kansas City Chiefs head for another back-to-back Super Bowl victory, with a tough season schedule ahead, though.
But coming back to the ring, per KC, the ring is bejeweled with 528 diamonds and 38 rubies. Talk about a victory being shiny enough. The ring has Mahomes #15 engraved on it, which hosts diamonds inside it too. It has the signature logo of Super Bowl LVIII and also says “Back-To-Back” on it. In addition to even the minute details, the ring will also remind him of the overtime 25-22 win against the Niners.

Moreover, the ring opens up and has 2019, 2022, and 2023 written inside of it, reminding the Kansas City star of the times of his triumph. But that’s not all; the ring surprisingly has a small play-calling figure inside of it named “Tom and Jerry,” showing various routes to be taken by the KC players. The NFL went a couple of extra miles to reward Patrick Mahomes, that’s for sure.
But there are a few more fun facts about the Super Bowl ring that would be interesting to know.
The secrets behind Patrick Mahomes and many other Super Bowl rings
It’s not clear what the actual cost of a Super Bowl ring is, and that’s because the NFL chooses not to disclose the numbers. Moreover, the prices of the rings vary each year. For example, it looks like Mahomes’ ring has some extra details because of his being a back-to-back Super Bowl champion.
A memorabilia company named Jostens usually makes the rings, and a set of team rings, per some reports, costs around $5 million or so. In 2015, the Patriots gave rings to their players, and they had 205 diamonds in them. They are typically made of yellow or rose gold, costing $5.475 million a set, which comes down to about $36k each. Per reports, the NFL picks up a fraction of the cost, and it ranges somewhere between $5k and $7k.

If and when the players choose to auction the ring, the price can go as high as $100,000. But that’s nothing compared to what Robert Kraft got for his SB ring auction. The Patriots owner put his Super Bowl LI ring up for auction, and it was brought in for more than a million dollars. A fun fact about Kraft is that he went to see Russian President Vladimir Putin and even asked to see the ring.

This happened in 2005 when Kraft placed his Super Bowl XXXIX ring on Putin’s finger and the Russian President said, “I could kill someone with this ring.” Apparently, Putin walked away with the ring, and Robert Kraft never got it back. He was later advised to say that he “gifted” the ring to Putin, but the truth made it out.
Another fun fact about the ring is that the very first ring was designed by none other than Vince Lombardi in 1967. The company that makes these rings, Jostens, has made 38 out of 57 rings, and some of the others might have been made by Balfour and Tiffany’s & Co., who also designed the Lombardi Trophy.
