The player who swallowed Lamar Jackson and eventually made his way into the Super Bowl finally revealed his thoughts on the incident. In the AFC Championship game, the Kansas City Chiefs’ defense received a significant advantage when defensive lineman Charles Omenihu executed an impressive strip-sack against Baltimore Ravens quarterback Jackson.
The crucial play occurred right after the Chiefs scored a touchdown, and it provided them with an opportunity to extend their lead before halftime. Consequently, the Red Army registered themselves as the AFC and the Super Bowl champions. And now he recalled the incident, explaining how he sees this whole blind-side move from last season.

Did Omenihu’s instincts help the Chiefs to lead in the game?
In a recent episode of the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams, the host was joined by Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu to talk about his journey, personal life, and the monumental 2023 season win. When asked to revisit the impressive moment of strip-sacking Lamar Jackson, Omenihu expressed, “So like the series before, I was so happy with myself, and I told myself, like you gonna make a play. You’re gonna make a play. Just keep grinding, and Ronnie Stanley, I could tell that was going to play action, so I kind of had a beat on it.”
He continued, “And I mean, I have long arms and kind of lift his outside wrist off, and I knew it was kind of a long drawing I play, so when I saw Lamar had the ball, my instinct coming from The Blind Side was always trying to strip the ball, and he held on to the ball. I did it, and it was like a euphoric feeling to be honest.” And this big third down resulted in turnover, healing the team to lead.
In addition, Omenihu expressed his desire for the league to respect him for his impact on the game and his ability to make crucial plays. He emphasized his intention to continue making game-changing plays when he returns to the field.
And now, the defensive end believes that he did enough last season to earn a new deal.

Is Charles Omenihu demanding a new contract?
Defensive end Charles Omenihu had a mixed season with the Chiefs. He missed the start due to suspension but returned strongly, recording seven sacks in 11 games and making a significant play in the AFC Championship Game. Unfortunately, he missed the Super Bowl due to a torn ACL and had surgery for it. Despite this setback, he believes he deserves a new contract based on his performance.

Omenihu highlighted his stats and impact on the field, including his ability to create turnovers and energize the team. While he’s currently signed through 2024 (a base salary of $6.74 million and a cap number of $10.97 million), he hopes for an extension to lower his cap hit.
