Giants’ Malik Nabers and Washington CommandersJayden Daniels continue to make the headlines concerning their recent $10k bet. In addition to this, he also shed light on the reason why he walked back from the bet. “He said it’s because he’s learned more about the NFL’s gambling policy.” According to the ESPN report, Malik released a statement on May 10 stating that both he and Daniels, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner, probed deeper into the NFL’s gambling rules, leading to the bet withdrawal.

In a Press conference, Nabers revealed the reason for the cancellation of the $10K with his former LSU teammate. He asserted, “I am now educated on the NFL’s gambling policy. We called off the $10K bet for rookie of the year.” After attending the rookie minicamp at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center, Commanders QB, the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has signed his contract and also reiterated Nabers’s opinion, remarking they did not want any trouble in their NFL career, so they came to this decision and called off the bet.

Jayden Daniels, who was recently drafted as the second pick by the Commanders in this NFL Draft 2024, also revealed the reason for denouncing the bet in a press conference, affirming “We were uneducated on the gambling policy in the NFL. We learned about it last night, me and him had a conversation … and obviously we don’t want to get in trouble ….”

Jayden recently joined the weekly FOX Sports podcast, “All Facts No Brakes”. In the podcast hosted by Super Bowl Champion and 3x Pro Bowler, Keyshawn Johnson, he revealed the details of the bet. The post caption reads #Commanders QB Jayden Daniels and #Giants WR Malik Nabers—former LSU teammates—have a $10,000 cash wager on who will win Offensive Rookie of the Year.” While the bet seemed like a friendly competition between the two, the risk of legal action led to the final decision of calling off the competition.

Rookies reduce the risk of NFL’s legal action toward betting

The NFL’s gambling policy does not allow players to bet on league games and statistics. The first-time offenders will be suspended from two games, second-timers will face a six-game suspension, and if it persists for the third time, they will face a one-year suspension, without any pay. There is an indefinite suspension for players betting on third-party sites, or deploying others to place bets on their behalf.

The NFL prohibits players “from placing, soliciting, or facilitating any bet, whether directly or through a third party, on any NFL game, practice or other event.” The policy once explicitly banned “private wagers between teammates, family, and friends, or others,” although that rule was not included in the most recent guidelines issued last year.

Still, the two rookies thought it would be best to denounce the bet. Acknowledging the stringent rules, the NFL players have withdrawn the bet focusing on their careers. “It was just another brother pushing another brother to try to get to success,” Nabers told reporters. “That’s all it was.”
