Brock Purdy‘s MVP odds went from a mountain peak to an oceanic trench in a matter of hours. RavensLamar Jackson, in the meantime, saw the opposite trend and now stands as the MVP favorite. But is the overnight turnaround of the critical and highly prestigious award justified by just one game?

Fox Sports analyst Rob Parker thinks so. The controversy analyst ripped Purdy and the believers who were making a case for the former Mr. Irrelevant’s MVP award and asked them to stop making excuses as Purdy threw four interceptions during the 49ers crucial match-up against the Ravens.

The Ravens, with the league’s leading defense, handled the 49ers quite comfortably. Parker, however, likes to believe it’s mostly Purdy’s fault, and he was highly overhyped. “He’s the MVP; he’s the guy; he’s beating all the odds, and now here he is. America, you can’t turn your back on him, you can’t shake your head at him anymore, and you can’t poo poo Brock Purdy anymore. And guess what? Brock Purdy turned into the biggest flop in the history of sports.”

The analyst took the piss from all the beliefs that Purdy was the MVP favorite. He additionally placed his verdict on the QB from the Ravens game alone, terming the former Mr. irrelevant a ‘flop.’

Parker didn’t stop there; he went on to talk about the four interceptions from Purdy, which became his unfortunate highlights from the game despite throwing for more yards than Lamar Jackson. “Stop with the ‘they were tipped’… Do we go back and count everybody else’s whose interceptions were tipped? stop it, that’s a part of football, okay!” Parker ripped apart the QB, whose two interceptions came from tips.

A tip, for instance, occurs when a teammate fails to catch a throw despite connecting with the ball from a QB and an opposition player snatches it after the miss. In Purdy’s case, even H.C. Shanahan defended his mistakes. So why is Rob Parker reluctant to accept that?

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan agreed that only the first interception from Purdy was the wrong choice of the QB, and “The others were real unfortunate plays”. Shanahan even explained the situation, “We were in a run play and got us in a corner blitz.” He also lauded the opposition defenders for their physical efforts, “but he [Purdy] had to throw it over that guy, and that guy made a hell of a play jumping and tipping it.”

Parker’s comments get further from reality when a statistical comparison of the two QBs is placed on the table. Purdy is pretty much the league leader in every statistic with 4050 yards, 29 TDs, 9.7 yards/att., 68.8% completion rate, and a 112.2 passer rating. He has been brilliant throughout the season. Jackson, on the other hand, has 3357 passing yards, 7.7 yards per att., a 66.3 passer rating, 19 TDs, and a 97.2 passer rating. Which ranks him as the 15th-best QB in the league (on yards) out of the total of 32 starters.
