Twenty-four-year-old Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney faces harsh criticism over his lackluster performances this season. The Chiefs’ recent loss has raised even more doubts about the capabilities of the WR. Toney has his team’s backing, though, with the veteran TE Travis Kelce extending his support. Will this suffice and bring the curtains over his recent struggles?
The last-time Super Bowl champs are not living up to their true potential this season. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes longs for the team’s offense to turn up when he needs it the most. The Chiefs’ last loss against the Bills at Arrowhead Stadium could have been avoided if Toney wasn’t called out for an offside with just 87 seconds remaining in the game.
Patrick Mahomes lost a potential TD chance when the Chiefs had the ball in possession. This crucial mistake was not a one-off thing for Toney, and the veteran sports journalist Stephen A. Smith pointed out the same recently.

Stephen A. Smith doesn’t agree with TE Kelce’s stance for Toney
After the last loss, Patrick Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid, and even Travis Kelce came out to support the young WR. Now, Smith called out Toney on YouTube and raised a genuine concern over the TE’s support for the WR. He respected his relationship with Kelce and addressed him by calling him his “brother from another mother,” which showed his love for Kelce. He came straight to the point and said, “We gotta be real here.”
Smith acknowledged the concerning statistics and said, “Out of the 83 wide receivers with at least 25 receptions this season, Kadarius Toney ranks dead last with 6.6 yards per catch.” He became furious and pointed out Toney’s miserable performances in the second half of this season. He addressed the concern, “Toney in the second half this season when Mahomes has needed his wide receivers most the most. A total of seven catches for nine yards.”
Smith questioned Kelce’s backing of Toney again by stating, “Twenty-eight wide receivers are averaging more yards after the catch.” He became agitated and recalled that this number is unacceptable with reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes as a QB.

Kadarius Toney needs to step up his game fast
Toney has been at the receiving end of criticism from the first game against the Lions. His fumble during a catch from Patrick Mahomes cost the Chiefs the season opener as they lost the game 20-21. Smith also addressed the situation, as his performance during this season is not even a shadow of his past accomplishments.

He added, “Eleven carries for 31 yards this year, averaged almost nine yards per carry over the first two seasons of his career, and now he is averaging just 2.8 yards.” How will the Chiefs deal with the facts with just four games left? Kadarius Toney must have something if he still has his team’s backing after such dismal performances. Will he turn up in the next game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
