Once a fortress before the start of this season, the AT&T Stadium has turned into a nightmare after six weeks of NFL action. Watching on from the stands was Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who was poised to celebrate his 82nd birthday. However, it didn’t happen the way he would have predicted, as the Cowboys got decimated at home by the Lions, who put 47 points in their yard.
Although the Lions were thriving in Dallas on Sunday, Jones was livid after the game. And the result might have gotten the better of him as he went into a rant on 105.3 The Fan. When asked about the Cowboys’ failures this season, Jones appeared to threaten the hosts’ jobs, which didn’t reflect well on his image.
After that viral radio rant, many criticized the Cowboys GM. And joining them was Stephen A. Smith, who ripped apart his ownership mistakes that led to the Cowboys standing at an abysmal place this season. “He should be ashamed of himself. That was bullying in a very flagrant fashion. You threaten a man’s job because he asked you a question about a team you swore would contend, and they look like hot garbage right now, and it’s got your fingerprints all over it because you did nothing this offseason.”

Well, Smith is nowhere to be contracted when it came to lashing out on Jones’ strategy this offseason. He allowed RB Tony Pollard to walk free out of the building. And then missed out on Ravens RB Derrick Henry, who lives in the Dallas region. But never thought about making the call to secure his services. After six games into the season, Pollard has racked up 339 yards on 78 carries and three TDs, having signed with the Titans this offseason.
And coming into Henry, whom Jones said he ‘couldn’t afford,’ went ahead and joined the Ravens for a guaranteed $9 million contract. Well, he has been a revelation for the Ravens this season, as the 30-year-old currently leads the NFL in 704 rushing yards. Even in week 3, when the Ravens faced off against the Cowboys, Henry dunked 2 TDs and rushed for 151 yards, thereby showing where Jones missed out on this offseason.

Leaving out those two, Jones instead re-signed Rico Dowdle for a one-year deal worth $1.2 million and Ezekiel Elliot, who spent last season with the Patriots. Both of them have combined for just 1TD, thereby showing us Jones’ lack of strategy management before the start of this season. After Jerry’s meltdown got everyone’s attention in Dallas, the radio hosts decided to address his emotions.
Jerry Jones was termed a ‘little man’ after his outburst on radio hosts
While Jones faced public criticism for his antics on a radio show who were just doing their job. His rant may not have reflected well on his character, as radio personality Bobby Belt called him a ‘little man’ for his uncalled outburst. Speaking on the same show where Jones had a meltdown, Belt said, “I think he wanted to come at it like, oh, let me show my passion. I think he legitimately got mad, and then he kinda snapped. Because here’s the thing, I think there are a couple of areas where there is showman Jerry and then there is genuinely upset Jerry.”

What’s your perspective on:
Is Jerry Jones' ego the real reason behind the Cowboys' downfall this season?
Have an interesting take?
The one we got on Tuesday definitely was an upset Jerry, who later addressed the situation. “I don’t know that I would go as far as calling the volume connotation as yelling. OK? But the facts are that if I’m going to be grilled by the tribunal, I don’t need it to be by the guys I’m paying.” However, co-host of 105.3 The Fan Shan Shariff said, “For damn sure it’s a fact that I don’t get paid or compensated by Jerry Jones, which I would love to be. Audacy signs my checks. I don’t want to get too much into station business and affairs.”
As the Cowboys find themselves enjoying a bye week right now, we hope this situation settles down quickly in Dallas. Compared to their off-field antics, their on-field issues seem to grow with every week. If they don’t turn around their season now, it will be too late for the Cowboys as Jones continues to reflect on what went wrong this offseason.
