Houston Texans’ sixth win of the season against the Colts didn’t come without sacrifices. As their WR Stefon Diggs found his right knee awkwardly bent in the second half. Going down in agonizing pain after his non-contact injury, Diggs eventually managed to walk off the field. And thereby headed to the locker room for further assessment.
However, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, on his injury update this week, said his knee ailment doesn’t look good. Well, if it doesn’t, then the Texans might have to brace themselves without their star receiver for the next few weeks. Although there isn’t any timeline revealed on his injury yet, the Texans would be hoping he avoids any major damage to his knee.

It was during the dying minutes of the third quarter when the unfortunate incident happened. As Texans QB C.J. Stroud completed a 4-year pass to RB Joe Mixon, Texans WR tried to cut a route of his own. But instead, he found himself clutching his knee as he went down in discomfort. After making his way to the locker room, Diggs didn’t come out to play the fourth quarter. His afternoon on Sunday saw him rack up five catches for 81 yards, thereby helping the Texans win by a narrow 3-point margin.
Offering an update on his injury, the Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans conveyed, “Unfortunate to see Stef go down there. He’s being evaluated for a knee. We’ll find out further information as the week goes on.” Well, the Texans would want to avoid losing Diggs as they already lost their WR Nico Collins to a hamstring injury. After leading the NFL receiving charts by 567 yards, Collins was placed in the injured reserves in week 5.
With Diggs and Collins out for a possible week or two, the Texans’ only hope is WR Tank Dell. And replacing Diggs on Sunday, he did alright, as the 24-year-old finished with 4 receptions for 35 yards, including one TD. Even C.J. Stroud praised him for his efforts, “He ran a lot of good routes today. I’m super proud of him and what he’s been able to do. He is going to have to step up big for us.”
While it’s still early for Tank to take over the receiver room, Diggs’ first season in Houston was off to a flyer until this week. Considering him defining his last season with the Bills’ “Worst Mental Space.” This injury may not be the toughest he has faced in the NFL.

Stefon Diggs’ ugly exit from Bills
You might be thinking, how come a player who won a Pro Bowl last year claims it’s his worst season ever? Well, his performances weren’t the reason behind it, as Diggs heard the rumors of his inevitable exit early on, “Last year, I was in the worst mental space I’ve been in since I’ve been in the league. If I’m not in a good space, obviously, that’s not the best for me. So that’s when things had to start shaking out.”
And those rumors of his eventual future in Buffalo did impact his output, as Diggs added, “You can’t roll out of bed and get 800 yards in the first eight games. Your best receivers doing that. You tell me about the last 10. What changed? Like for the last 10 games. I forgot how to f—— play football?” For the first 10 games he played for the Bills last year, Diggs recorded 73 receptions for 868 yards and 7TDs. But after OC Ken Dorsey was relieved of his duties in Buffalo, Stefon Diggs racked in only 44 catches for 388 yards and just one TD.

However, this season, he may have rediscovered his form again, as the Texans WR already has 42 catches for 415 yards within the first seven games. And don’t forget his three receiving TDs and one rushing TD before the injury on Sunday. As we wait for updates on his knee injury, the Texans would be hoping they can get their star receiver back as quickly as possible.
