Almost a week into the 2025 free agency, the Steelers’ quarterback problem remains unsolved. With Justin Fields already gone and Russell Wison still waiting for a contract, Mike Tomlin is yet to make a decision. While there is no update on what the Steelers plan to do with Wilson, Tomlin’s interest in Aaron Rodgers came to light last week. “The Steelers are getting close to a deal with four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, per multiple sources,” veteran Steelers insider Gerry Dulac revealed on March 10. But with Rodgers also entertaining interest from the NY Giants and a potential offer from the Vikings, a move to Pittsburgh seemed far from certain. Now, however, a new development has suddenly shifted the odds in favor of a Rodgers-Tomlin partnership.

We all know the NY Jets had a disastrous season in 2024. But you can not deny that Rodgers had a good season on a personal level, hitting 28 TDs and 11 INTs. Now, it was already clear that Tomlin and the Steelers were looking for a temporary solution rather than a long-term franchise QB. And since we all know the kind of season Wilson had last year, getting Rodgers from the free market seems like the ideal choice for the Steelers honcho.

Even for Rodgers, joining the Giants, who have made only twice to the playoffs in the last 10 years, over Pittsburgh would not be wise. And let’s not talk about the Vikings—an arch-rival to the Packers. And the Steelers? Well, with Tomlin at the helm, we all are aware what he can pull off. So, do we have any concrete update on the Steelers-Rodgers partnership?

Everyone is aware that there have been reports that the Vikings are interested in signing Rodgers. But, before Minnesota could make an offer, Mike Tomlin and the Steelers swooped in. Reports state that they have offered Aaron Rodgers a one-year contract worth a good amount of money. But there’s one issue with it. Money? Nuh-uh. Actually, speculations indicate the length of the contract is affecting it. Maybe the QB would like to have a longer contract.

Per Dulac, “Two things are certain: No matter which option they choose, they will not give any quarterback they bring in anything more than a one-year contract. That is what the Steelers are offering Rodgers. Sources said the delay in the Steelers’ discussions with Rodgers was not about money.” After these things, one thing is clear: Rodgers will definitely prioritize other offers first. After all, this could be his final run, and he would want it on his terms. But, sources indicate that the Steelers have not been looking for a quarterback to sign with them for more than a year.

“I will tell you that whoever comes in, whether it’s Aaron Rodgers, or if they do make a deal somewhere, they are not gonna give up a lot. But whoever it is, it’s only gonna be on a one-year deal. They are not interested in signing any quarterback to a long-term deal,” Dulac added.

Other franchises that the QB could join include the Las Vegas Raiders, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and Indianapolis Colts. All of them would love to have Rodgers on their roaster not just because he is good but also because of all the experience he carries for younger talent. Now that the Steelers have made their final offer, other teams can base their offers on it. Teams like the Giants or the Browns may be seeking to make their last offer soon as they would like to strategize their NFL Draft, too.

After these rumored offers, it appears that the QB can make his decision anytime soon. The reason for a quick decision can be the possibility of offers getting worse with time. And something like this has already started to happen with one of the teams.

The Vikings could be trying to withdraw from the Aaron Rodgers market

It has been rumored for about a week that Minnesota is close to signing Aaron Rodgers. At one point, some reports even claimed that the changes for the Vikings’ contract offer had reached 50/50 for the team. Not only that, but the organization was even speculated to be putting forward a massive offer. BUT! Things have changed dramatically. According to some sources, Minnesota may be reconsidering its interest in A-Rod. And the reason for this unexpected change of plans is actually HC Kevin O’Connell.

Actually, Kevin wants his squad to be prepared for the long time and not just the next couple of seasons. This is why he was also against the idea of signing Sam Darnold. And according to reports, for the same reason, Connell does not want Aaron Rodgers to join them, “Minnesota Vikings are sort of on the periphery here. Sources there tell me that it’s possible they get involved with Rodgers, but the feeling this week has been probably not.”

Not only that, but the sources state that the organization is aiming to develop JJ McCarthy. The young quarterback missed his first season due to injuries, but he is definitely returning to form this year. And the Vikings believe he has a lot of promise, so instead of bringing in Rodgers, Kevin O’Connell may want to give McCarthy more time. However, even if the team had signed Rodgers, it would have benefited their long-term intentions as well. After all, McCarthy could not have found a finer mentor than A-Rod himself.

So, who knows if the Vikings can still change their mind. Things like this are predicted to happen frequently in the next few days. Teams’ thinking can swing a lot before the NFL Draft so until then, the QB should choose a team and settle down. But what are your thoughts? Where should Rodgers go?
