Can the Steelers' bold move for Davante Adams finally reignite their championship hopes?

Davante Adams’ relationship with the Las Vegas Raiders has soured, and it’s no secret that the star wide receiver has requested a trade. After an offseason filled with frustration over the team’s struggles and the change at quarterback, Adams is looking for a new start. Despite putting up solid numbers this season, Adams’ frustrations with the Raiders hit a peak, with many around the league expecting him to move sooner rather than later.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly making a serious push for Raiders star wide receiver Davante Adams. After missing out on Brandon Aiyuk in the offseason, the Steelers are now eyeing Adams with an “aggressive offer” in the works, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. The Steelers are determined to boost their offense, and Adams, with his elite playmaking abilities, would be the perfect fit. “The Steelers have been in contact with the Raiders,” Russini reported, signaling Pittsburgh’s intent to swing big.

“Pittsburgh is making an aggressive offer,” Russini said, indicating the team’s strong push for a deal. At 3-1, the Steelers’ defense has carried them, but the addition of a true No. 1 receiver could give the offense a much-needed boost.

However, Adams has made it clear that his preferred destination is the New York Jets, where he’d reunite with his former Packers teammate, Aaron Rodgers. While no trade has been finalized, NFL insider Ian Rapoport noted, “The Jets are seen as the favorites due to Rodgers’ influence.” Rodgers has expressed his desire to bring Adams to New York, though the Jets haven’t rushed the process. As the trade talks heat up, the Jets, Steelers, and a handful of other teams remain in play for the star receiver.

Trade rumors heat up: Bills, Steelers & more eyeing Davante Adams

With Davante Adams officially requesting a trade from the Raiders, multiple NFL teams are now circling the All-Pro receiver. The New York Jets remain front-runners, especially given Adams’ rapport with Rodgers, but several other teams are vying for a piece of the action. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler named the Bills, Steelers, Saints, and even the Commanders as possible contenders.

Have an interesting take?

For any team eyeing Adams, the trade price is steep. “It’s going to take around $13.5 million in cap space,” reports Over the Cap. For teams like the Ravens, who have just $4 million in cap room, pulling off this deal will require some serious “cap space wizardry.”

While Baltimore’s Governor Wes Moore jumped on Adams’ cryptic Edgar Allan Poe Instagram post to campaign for the Ravens, their current financial situation makes this trade highly unlikely. John Lynch of the 49ers also weighed in, stating, “We like our group… but we’ll never say never,” though their packed receiving corps makes a trade unlikely.

As for Adams’ other suitors, Fowler’s insiders hint that the Commanders are a dark horse in the trade sweepstakes. They may be eager to bolster their offense around rookie QB Jayden Daniels, despite Adams’ age and their young core. With teams like the Cowboys opting out due to money concerns, the field is narrowing. According to NFL insider Dianna Russini, Dallas said, “no thanks,” calling it a “long putt to sink.”
