Is Justin Fields the future of the Steelers, or should Russell Wilson take the reins?

Pittsburgh fans, who would you have as your QB1, Russell Wilson or Justin Fields? The Steelers are in constant headlines ever since rumors around Fields getting benched started swirling. That might be because Russ is feeling healthy now and also because Mike Tomlin wants to stand firm on what he promised to Russell Wilson. That’s the QB1 job.

Fields hasn’t played that bad, has he? He wasn’t exceptional, but he wasn’t bad either. So why does Mike Tomlin want to disrupt a perfectly healthy system? These questions still remain unanswered. However, the Steelers legend, Terry Bradshaw knows who his starting quarterback is.

A TMZ Sports reporter was very inquisitive when she met the 4x Super Bowl winner. She had to know what Bradshaw thought of Fields. His fans can feel reassured because Bradshaw believes in the former Bears QB, who’s got the Steelers to a 4-2 standing in the AFC North, just behind the Baltimore Ravens.

“Yes, absolutely,” Bradshaw said when he was asked whether Justin Fields should retain his starting job and is the “right person” to lead the Steelers in his opinion. Bradshaw even asked the reporter jokingly whether she had some inside scoop on the situation. Unfortunately, she was just as clueless as every Pittsburgh fan.

“He’s played well enough to keep the job, in my opinion,” the former Steeler said of Justin Fields. The reporter gave Bradshaw one more chance to switch sides, but he was resilient and wanted to “hang my hat with the young guy.”

“I think he’s played really good. You know, he’s such a great athlete. I think he fits the team they have right now,” the former Steeler further clarified his stance on Fields. When asked about Russell Wilson’s future, Bradshaw just hit the reporter with a “I don’t know.”

But despite gaining the trust of this Steel City legend, Justin Fields doesn’t feel like he’s up to the mark to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fields expressed doubts about himself

The QB has now played 6 games for the Steelers and even had a 300-yard game against the Colts, though his team lost. Astonishingly, he’s just thrown one interception as a starter for the Steelers. The QB also has 231 rushing yards and 5 rushing TDs in his pocket too. But that’s not enough for him to lend credence to his own abilities.

Fields made a blunt admission about himself and thought that if he had done a phenomenal job as QB1, there wouldn’t be a “Russell Wilson or Justin Fields” debate. He addressed the media a couple of hours ago and mentioned, “I don’t think I played good enough if I’m being real with you. If I’m being real myself, I think if I did play well enough, I don’t think there would be any sort of, ‘Who should be playing, who should not?”

However, he’s proud of what he’s achieved as a Steeler in such a short time. He knows his shortcomings and understands what he needs to work on as a future starter. For all we know, the QB is grateful for these 6 weeks when Mike Tomlin gave him a chance to prove himself. It’s time to see what Russell Wilson will do now.
